So I was at best buy to take advantage of the buy one get one blu-ray offer and while the clerk was trying to locate me a copy of monster house and black hawk down my wife was thumbing through the HD-DVD section(which in my best buy is actually bigger than the bd)

She comes running up to me saying she wants "this" first thing she hands me is 12 monkeys priced normally(I think 19.99 or 24.99)

Then she hands me "charlie and the chocolate factory" the Johnny Depp version and says I don't care if you like it we're buying this......I was about to put up a fight and noticed it was marked $9.99

Went back to the HD-DVD rack couldn't find any other titles marked down like that but all 5 of their copies of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were marked $9.99. I don't know if it was a fluke or intentional but $9.99 for a Hd-DVD is a deal I'll definetly buy.

We watched it tonight was surprised movie actually looked rather good and wasn't that bad a movie afterall.

Ya, that movie was worth it just to enjoy Tim Burton's visual style.

No such luck at my BB. The best I've seen it some titles listed as $21.99 when they first came out, but the last time that happened was way back for Troy and Red Dragon. It's amazon only for me.

My best buy seems to be half and half 19.99 and 24.99

Surprisingly even some combo discs were 24.99

They're still more than amazon but at least not by a LOT....(at least for HDDVD) BD is still higher.

I don't know if best buy sets pricing locally or not but thats just what I saw marked tonight.

It was amazon only for me as well at least until tonight. In fact I've got 3 pre-orders from amazon that'll be up tomorrow.

I was surprised to see that the majority of BD titles at BB were $29.99, not just the Fox titles.

I laugh every time I see a yellow "sale" sticker on an HD-DVD, with the priced marked $24.99. What a deal!

But what I'm most annoyed about is that there are a ton of titles that not only do they not stock, but aren't even in their system. I took a couple HD-DVDs that I received for Christmas that I already had to return them for store credit at BB. And while I got $129 for The Sopranos, which was awesome
, I couldn't return Casablanca, Forbidden Planet, or Ant Bully, because they weren't even in their system. I don't know if that's a regional thing, something unique to that store, or if it's for the entire chain, but it sure doesn't help my confidence that these formats are being given a fair chance to break out of the niche market.
