I am new to the forum and upgrading my home theatre in the new home. I have ordered a plv-60 and looking at building a diy grey screen.
I tried something pretty interesting: polyester primer (autobody supplies dealer) on canvas and ply. This stuff needs to be sprayed with a high end hvlp gun but it goes on absolutely even and looks like it should do the trick.
I have been using this stuff for giving me a perfectly smooth finish on mdf and plywood for cabinets and with a light color sanding(600 grit), is perfectly matte, smooth and grey. I can very the shade and am making some test boards.
FYI, this stuff is awesome as it fills in everything and is extremely even. It is also quite toxic so be aware of local regulations and proper protection ie full respirator etc. I have a booth but I bet you could find a local auto body shop to shoot it.
I will post pics soon. This forum has got me thinking too much!
