Groundhog Day Blu-Ray mention (Not Announced)

I just noticed on Amazon.com that they have a video on their "Groundhog Day" DVD listing with Stephen Tobolowsky (Ned Ryerson) promoting the new DVD reissue.

In the video, Tobolowsky mentions a Blu-Ray version twice. Sony has made no announcement and it's obviously not coming out alongside the DVD release, but I have to assume Tobolowsky is reading something that some marketers at Sony came up with. Gives me hope that they are at least thinking about it.

Well, now you have to figure they'll hold it for next Groundhog Day.

I love this movie!
There are several scenes that I think will look great

in high definition: Bill Murry's ice scuplting scene, Bill & groundhog driving

the truck over the cliff(explosion) scenes, for example...

P.S. groundhog actually tastes pretty good... I got tricked into eating it at a

local game cooking fair... it was in a stew with potato/carrot/onions...

definitely did NOT taste like chicken... more like the rabbit meat....

Groundhog Day is on the AFI list of top 100 American movies ever made.

Here's Roger Ebert's 2nd REVIEW of the moview 12 years after its release.
It's not on the top 100 list, but it was one of the 400 films up for consideration.

It is on the comedy list though, at #34. Looking at that particular list, it's a little sad to see that so many are missing from HDM. AFAIK, only Blazing Saddles (#6), Animal House (#36), and The Jerk (#79) are out. Was The Graduate released outside the US?

Out of those 100 top films, how many are currently available on Blu-ray disc?

(or coming soon?)

Thanks!

Oops, my mistake I meant comedy, as far as how many are on Blu-Ray? I really don't know- you're going to have to go to their website and start counting.

Actually, I've heard the same announcement over and over at least 100 times.

Didn't you already post this yesterday?

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this come out on Blu-ray soon with it being the 15th anniversary and all. Plus it was recently shown on HDNet Movies. Incidentally, it didn't look all that great, although that's more than likely because of the source material. It is set in Pennsylvania during winter after all.

I love this movie.

Hope it comes to Blu-ray soon.
I am also going to pick this up. I skipped the Special Edition so I'm hoping that the Blu-Ray will have all of those extras and then some.

I thought it looked pretty good on HDNet...

Hehe, I saw that too. It's not the first time there's been a hint, it was listed as coming on the 28th Jan 08 in Britain on the SPHE UK site. However it was taken down but the original list is in that link.

Strange that they're not releasing it the same day as the DVD. I guess they knew they've been planning a BD release for a while since they remastered it for the 15th Anniversary (God has it been that long!).

So it is coming, the question is when! My patience snapped and I ordered the DVD last year (actually it was a 3 pack of DVD's). I hope that "So I married an Axe murderer!" isn't far behind, that was the second dvd in the pack.
I would buy this one in a second! Hopefully, I would then remember that I had already bought it the next time I saw it.

Oh, I'd get this quite quickly as well!
one of the best movies
"I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl. We ate lobster and drank pina coladas. At sunset we made love like sea otters. THAT was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over and over and over..."

I love any movie Bill Murray or Harold Ramis is attached to. Obviously I can't wait for Ghostbusters.
I too, would buy Groundhog Day in a second. One of my favorites of all time.

I find myself watching this whenever it's on, either on standard def or on HDNET. I'll definitely buy the Blu-ray when it comes out. I always laugh out loud when he kisses the waitress or the way he gets the toaster and drops it in the tub. "Don't drive angry."
