I have a question about guaranteed and non-guaranteed channels. Replay says that theme channels are non-guaranteed, yet when I create a theme channel the default is guaranteed at 30 mins (available for me to change of course). I was creating theme channels and not allocating enough space to record "say a movie". I was not advancing the allocated space to 2 hrs and when a movie came on it was guaranteed for only 30 mins and the movie wasn't getting recorded. Now I am allocating enough time to the theme channels but leaving the default as guarenteed. My question is this, two nights ago, I was trying to create a single recording and it sayed I had no space left for a guaranteed recording........there were two movies on my hard drive (medium quality) and that was it. All of my showbased channels were empty and when I hit pause on live tv it sayed I have 7 hrs left on my drive (obviously the two movies at medium quality takes it toll on space, yet should have been enough to record the two hour movie at regular quality. So I said all that to ask this. If I set my theme channels to non-guaranteed, do I still have to allocate more than the 30 mins to get a 2 hr. movie? I would believe so, but then I would not have believed having all the channels guaranteed would have used up all my "allocated" space even though there was plenty of room on the drive either. Can someone answer this for me?

What about Zones? Are Zones just like Themes? If so, then the NBC theme is useless as it won't really guarantee anything.

Once I get my 60 hour unit this will work great. Right now 20 hours is not enough space to guarentee everything I want to watch.

Just a thought, but maybe the word "guaranteed" just shouldn't be used for theme-based channels. Perhaps something like "Reserve Space" (reserve as a verb) would be less confusing. "Keep" could be replaced with "Use up to" or "Record up to".

Here Here - if "Shows" are above "Themes" then "Guaranteed" should not be used EVER w/ "Themes".


I think someone from RTV posted here that they did change some of the wording in their manuals to reflect "guaranteed" doesn't REALLY mean "guaranteed", it just means to put space aside...


I hesitate to come up w/ ANOTHER term (Reserve Space for ex.) since that might confuse matters MORE!


I like John's parking lot example...that might be worth drawing up and putting in the manual. Really!
