Perhaps the best guitar demo I know of is "Friday Night in San Francisco" with Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, and Paco DeLucia. Not only this an excellent and exciting guitar performance, if played on a system with extended high frequency response and good imaging, you get an excellent acoustic image of the performers on the stage as well as the acoustics of the venue, even from the 'regular' CD version (Columbia CK 37152).
Another excellent guitar demo is "Mosaico" by Govi, an HDCD published by Higher Octave Music (HOMCD 11774). Govi blends Spanish and Classical styles in creative arrangements. Music and recording are both outstanding, and showcase the guitar as an instrument in a way any guitar lover should experience.
Finally, a little off the beaten path, Rodrigo y Gabriela (self titled). Musicianship and recording quality are not up to demo level of the two recordings above -- but although these two young people lack the training of the artists above, they have raw musical talent and play some dynamite Spanish guitar! If you are demoing equipment using the recordings above, and the client is liking the music -- put this on. I often do. Wall Street Journal reviewed.
