About damn time. I'll believe it when I see it!

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/05/10/...o-ps3-adapter/

If you were unfortunate enough to sell your PS2 before reading about the failed attempts to play the original Guitar Hero on PS3, you aren't alone. In fact, upon first hearing the news of this little gadget, you probably jumped up for extreme joy and knocked yourself out on a low-hanging ceiling fan. Jeesh, be more careful! Now, we've all been patiently awaiting this very product since it was known to be in the works since November. Thanks to Pelican and their beautiful PS2 to PS3 adapting magic, we can finally rejoice, hold our original Guitar Hero controllers high, and rock ourselves out silly.

See, some of us actually made the tragic mistake of assuming everything would be fine, without bothering to physically check adapters or reading any news about incompatibility. And so, with rage-like Hulk powers, we may very well have smashed everything in our living rooms when we realized the horrible, staggering truth. While most of our audience was probably savvy enough to avoid this type of disastrous end, we were stubbornly unwilling to part with this cherished product that literally, brought us tears of joy. Yes, tears of joy. Game on, beautiful rock stars of the gaming world. Game on.

I received my Pelican adapter today. Don't get out the champagne just yet, folks.

The good news--it does make the game playable with the PS3. But, not all that well.

First of all, unlike with the PS2, it only recognizes that you are holding the colored buttons down while you strum. I calibrated GH2 to work with my DLP Samsung (49 ms delay, BTW), and the game still seemed fairly stiff vs using the PS2 hooked up to the same TV.

It's a pain to switch between menu and song since the adapter is on the floor right in front of the entertainment center. in menu mode, the blue button works as the green button.

Once the song starts, the whammy works fine, but you can't use star power at all.

If this is your only way to play GH2, then it will work. But, I will probably go ahead and use my PS2 to play GH2 and will use the adapter to play God of War 2 with rumble on the PS3.

I just got back from a four margarita dinner, so this is all I can type right now, but if anyone has any specific questions, I'll give it a shot later.

Can you elaborate on the feeling of being stiff? Was it not responsive when playing so you played worse? Or when you pressed a key it responded too slow or it wasn't consistant. Why can't you use star power? Thanks

It's a Pelican product: what more explanation do you want for WHY it doesn't work good? Pelican has fried my dreamcast with their extension cables, and xbox controllers have stopped working within minutes, and the replacement didn't even work from the get-go. There's a reason these third party people have console-replacement gaurantees on their products now....

Bought mine on Saturday.

GH-II does work, but I understand the "stiff" comment.

Normally, you hold down a button(s) and the game knows you held it down and displays it to you on the screen. But with the adapter, the buttons do not register until you hit the strum bar. This has two effects:

Normal playing is less forgiving. You really become keenly aware of the timing requirements of the game. The distincting beteween hitting notes and not hitting notes is very pronounced. Your calibration needs to be spot-on or you will be playing very poorly. It'll be like your super guitar skillz just went out the window.

Since the buttons only register when you strum, there is no more hammer on and pull off. You must strum each and every note.

Now as you remember, GH-II introduced higher difficulty sections and more complex button patterns, but dialed down the requirement for hammer on and pull offs to make them more forgiving. But now that HO/PO no longer works, the songs are simply impossible to play at Expert level, and quite difficult at the Hard level.

As for support for other games:

I have a couple of Logitech PS2 wireless controllers which I love dearly. I held on to them even as I sold my PS2 system, in the hopes of using them with the PS3. These controllers simply refuse to work with the Radio Shack adapter, but does work with the Pelican adapter. But apparently, rumble does not work. I don't have a wired PS2 controller on hand to see if this is specific only to the Logitech wireless controller.

Everything else is great. The unit looks/feels cheap. The little switch on the side is stiff and scratchy. Worth $14.99 or less.

Supposedly with the Radio Shack adapter, hammer on's and off's are now working!

Pelican I'm hearing no....

Going to the shack on the way home. Will verify.

I picked up the Radio Shack adapter last night and tried it. Works with Guitar Hero 1 except the whammy bar does not work. It acts like the stum bar instead. Otherwise hammer on and off works fine. The strum bar is backwards too, if you press down it moves the highlighter up and vice versa, but this doesn't affect game play any.

I don't have GH2 since I have it for the 360 so I didn't test on that one.
