Here’s something you probably didn’t expect, a 5.1 of AfD. There will be a super deluxe box as well as a super super deluxe box. The super SDE will be made of fake leather and wood and has extra vinyl and non musical content. For 850 quid. What, is Axl going to include some drug paraphenalia from the old days? Both boxes will have a 5.1 by Elliot Scheiner :). No stand alone BD as far as I can see.

Nice! Will be picking up. Little pricey but after even seeing the price of that locked and loaded set the 4cd/blu ray box seems like a deal.

holy mother of...thanks for the headsup.

The super duper deluxe set is truly...eye watering at 999 glorious bucks, and I thought my love for GNR and AFD cannot be measured by money...

I thought you were serious at first. OTOH, I’m sure there will be some buyers of the L&L box. Got to have that faux leather and wood. :D

The pricing on these sets is krazy. Makes you wonder how many they could sell in the $35-$50 range like the recent Tull and Marilion mini box sets.

The Super Duluxe edition is down to $140 on Amazon. Still $40 too much for my tastes but we're getting there.

Hasn't Bob Ludwig been retired now for a bit? The 5.1 must have been sitting on the shelf for a while.

If anyone’s still interested, here’s the box in question.

A very sweet collection. I can honestly report that I was on the forefront of AFD. I remember the 80's Hard Rock/Metal scene prior to its release and the shockwaves after its release.

Talk about a "game changer" these guys pulled it off on the grandest of scales. Odd thing, I bought the cassette immediately upon release. There would be a stop gap period in time until the album gained full steam in 1988, here is Alabama, anyway. PLAY IT LOUD! :D

The 5.1 is being done by Elliot Scheiner who’s probably up there with Steven Wilson in the quality of his surround mixes. Is he retired?
It’s probably the only reason I’m considering getting the cheaper box. Hopefully it will drop in price like the overpriced Roxy Music did.
It’s a bit cheaper at ImportCD’s, but still too high.

I'm hoping this drops to $99 or so, but if Importcds does a 10% memorial day sale I'll pre-order at that price.

ImportCD had (maybe still has?) a TAKE10 promo going. I got the small box set for $116 shipped using the code.
Very nice. It is a great package to own. For those of us into the scene back in the 80's, this album dropped like an atomic bomb.
Very well recorded for that period in time. I did not know how those guys pulled it off?

I ordered the deluxe (not super deluxe) version for about $160 shipped from amazon... coming today... CAN'T WAIT. It will be the first SACD/BR-A for me in probably a year or so, when I went on my last MC spending spree.

I know it seems expensive but it all depends on how much you care about the band/album. This album is one of my all time favorite rock albums and I think one of the top 25 all time, so even though I don't think it's a steal or a great deal, I think it's well worth it. It's a stone cold classic and the deluxe set has been done the right way, unlike the 30th anniversary set for U2's the Joshua Tree (which came out a year or two before AfD). I mean, isn't this what we all clamor for, a MC mix of the album in an anniversary/special edition set?

I am also excited to hear the studio sessions cuts as they are without the few, but silly additions (e.g. the whistle at the beginning of Paradise City, etc.). Only thing it's missing that I was really hoping for: a Rocket Queen without the sex sounds. Just ruins one of their best studio tracks.
