I have the audio for my GWIII connected to my Home theatre receiver (Yamaha HTR5740). The only way I could do this was by connecting the audio out jacks to the receiver and setting the audio to "fixed" in the tv menu. which means I have to turn my receiver on to have any sort of sound. Is there a better way to do this?

Prioblem #2. The volume of the TV input is much lower than the DVD volume when switching inputs on the receiver (annoying to turn down the volume when switching between DVD and TV). Any suggestions on how I can equalize this?

Thanks

I have my GWIII hooked to an HD-PVR CABLE BOX. It has DOLBY DIGITAL out and I run that into my receiver. I also have audio cables running from my cable box to the TV. I can use either the TV's speakers or my home theater speakers. I also have my dvd players audio running directly into my receiver and not to the TV at all. This setup works GREAT for me.

As noted above, the "typical" setup for an home theater system is to simply ignore the TV speakers altogether (i.e. not actually using its speakers at all), or using it as the last step in the chain, rather than routing things through it.

Hence, folks connect their tuning or source device (VCR, DVD, cable box, satellite box, etc.) to their stereo receiver, and their receiver to their speakers. This effectively takes the TV out of the audio chain, and gives one the capability to use Dolby Digital and DTS, which is impossible if all audio has to originate with or pass through the TV.

thats how I have things set up. I don't run any sound through the TV speakers at all...all the sound is run through the receiver...

What I was asking about was how I can have the TV speakers work when I just want to watch regular TV...with my current set up, I have to fire up the receiver, subwoofer and all 6 speakers if I want to watch regular TV (the sound is great but sometimes I don't feel like turning the whole system on).

In order to have the TV speakers turn back on, I have to go into the menu and set the audio to "variable"...which then sends no audio to the receiver...is there a way that I can have the TV speakers on while they feed an audio signal to the receiver as well? (that way I just turn down the TV volume during Home Theatre viewing and turn it back up when I don't feel like firing up the HT system) thanks..hope that clarifies

I don't think the TV sends a signal to the "fixed" connection when the internal speakers are on. Signal DOES go to both the internal speakers and to the receiver when you are connected through the "variable" output. That's the way I have mine set. (I often multitask, having both the receiver/radio on as well as the TV) When using the receiver to provide sound, I turn off the internal speakers through the menu and set the TV volume higher to place it in same relative level as other audio sources going the receiver. I think the TV output is lower relative to other sources through either connection, however.

YMMV
