This thread is dedicated to the 'tweaking' of the new Sony Grand Wega IV.

Use these Tweaks at your own risk

The result of using these tweaks may include but is not limited to the following items.

1. Voiding your warranty.

2. Staying up all hours of the night

3. Wanting to stay home sick

4. An amazing picture out of your TV

Have at it

Which is why I didn't

Now if we could only get a tweak posted...

If someone might be able to help out, it would be greatly appreciated...I can't change the name of the thread. I tried at the top to change it, but it only changes it IN the thread.

Seems like every set gets attention on this site butthe new Sony XS series. It sure would be nice if someone could post the proper info so us Xs owners could set up our sets properly without having to call sony people everyday lol, This site is full of information on pretty much everything, is kind of weird that only this set isnt getting reviewed in the proper manner.

I for one would be extremely greatful if someone with knowledge of this set would come forward and help us XS peopel out.

Thanks

There have been suggestions made for the XS955 TVs in the various GWIV threads. If you can't get a decent picture on your XS955 using the suggestions there, then chances are the XS955 is not the TV for you.

It should not have to take Service Menu adjustments to make one happy with the XS955. Oh sure, the Service Menu adjustments appear to fine-tune the picture a bit (good for grayscale and a bit more detail, from what I have read).

But if your XS955 picture with the adjustments available in the user menu and advanced video menu is not sufficient to make you happy, get another TV. Life's too short to be messing around with a TV you don't like, especially at these prices.

I'm not at all happy w/ user menu adjustments. Guess I need a new TV. ;)

MY XBR950 was bad out of the box, my XS is worse. IMO, the XS is not even watchable out of the box. The colors are fine, however the sharpness and resolution need some serious help. DVDs are way to soft and undefined w/out at least *some* tweaking.

Fortunately I was able to make some fairly dramatic changes in less than 30 minutes w/ some simple tweaks in the service menu and the right resolution/sharpness pattern.

I just could not imagine living w/ the default settings. Once you have seen what a few service menu changes can do there is no going back!

I didn't mean to imply that you had to like the TV with the default settings, which I would agree are way off. But if you don't like the picture produced once you go into the video and advanced video menus on the XS955, I contend that most people are not going to like the TV even with the Service Menu adjustments.

From what I have read, the tweaks in the XS955 Service Menu provide an improvement, albeit subtle, and certainly not night and day different. Then again, there haven't been a lot of people applying Service Menu tweaks to the XS955.

So, keeping to the spirit of this thread, would you mind sharing what you changed?

Your like the 50th person on this board ive read say the service menu adjustments made major improvments but yet did not share the adjusments. I dont understand really why this is the case, isnt to much of a hassle to open it up and share your settings is it?

Michael by reading all the great reviews on this site and many others on the XS series and watching it in the store I bought it its picture quality and design blew me away so i bought it and still like it, I just want the max out of it I guess im like any other guy who just threw out thousands for a tv in wanting it to be as good as it can be. Its very frustrating readin people say " I made service menui adjusments and now its AMAZING" without posting what they did.

Thanks

Yes, don't keep people hanging....Time is important to everybody...I even tell the professional calibrators we would pay to have them come & do the calibration, but sometimes they live to far away. Plus one persons idea may be better than the other. This is what the forums are all about working together......For the best tips.....its no secret....This is where UMR breaks the ice on helping.....

Look at all of page 68...Could be most of you have already got this. Remember like they say each Model may be a little different... but most are very close in the digital world. Have a movie with THX calibrations & any of the other professional Test DVD'S to see what your doing...Remember Female has better Color Eye's to help in the color mode......I did UMR'S tweaks & every lady that comes & see's my TV say' s your color is better than any set I have watched out on the market.........

Ok, have a look at this, Carl has some suggestions....
The set Carl is talking about happens to be mine. (He did a great job calibrating it.) Not sure if the tweaks will apply to all of your sets, but they did make a huge difference... most definitely the Service Menu tweaks.

Can you share your XS Optimal Service Menu settings with us XS owners, if that's not a hassle for ya?
