Components:

Proview TV PA32JK1A - http://www.proview.net/Support/Download_UM.aspx?sn=433

Sony receiver HTDDW900 - http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/DocsConn...=60904&DL=true

Sony DVD DVPNS75H - http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/DocsConn...=69101&DL=true

Cable Box SA 8300HD - http://www.sciatl.com/products/consu...orer8300HD.htm

Im somewhat new to the DIY HT scene, so this might be something obvious, but after 3 hours I dont think it is.

In a nut shell, I do not get any surround sound through HDMI cables, but the sound is there as I can hear it through TV speakers. It's connected Cable Box ---HDMI---> Receiver ---HDMI---> TV. If I connect a non-HDMI cable from receiver ---> TV, I get surround sound.

I could use a digital coax or optical cable, but Im trying to avoid using extra cables.

Do you mean surround sound from the DVD player, or Dolby Surround from a stereo source from your cable box?

Did you set your DVD player to output bitstream or PCM?

Are you trying to get surround sound to your TV or speakers hooked to your receiver? I don't follow you on surround sound to your TV. TVs usually only have stereo speakers.

Wow, I see that now...this suks. WTF is the purpose of having HDMI then when I have to use an additional cable. I also noticed that the picture misaligns itself when switching between 1080, 720, 480. If I use component, I dont have that issue. I spent a lot of time researching these components to build a budget system and I now want to smash them.
