So, I'm looking to buy a new TV at about 40", and I'm stuck choosing out of these three. My primary uses are going to be watching football, Xbox 360, and using it occasionally for watching stuff from an HTPC. I was quite happy with my old SQ01 LN-32A550, but I'm looking for a bit of a step up from it this time.

I haven't seen the 421XVT in person, as C is much farther away than BB, but without solid information on 1:1 mapping and 5:5 pulldown, it's at the bottom of my list.

The V5100 looks great, and I've always loved the very bright Sony whites, and it seems popular around here, albeit with a few reported issues. No lag information, though.

The LH40 explicitly has 1:1 and 5:5, and lag measured at, I believe, 3 frames, which is better than the A550. It also has an IPS panel, as I understand, which should be good. I just still have a mistrust of LG as a respectable electronics company, which gives me a bit of pause.

Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks!

When I was recently shopping for my new LCD, I also considered the LG LH40. However, although I thought it had an excellent picture, I just couldn't get past the fact that the company used to be a bottom feeder known as Goldstar that was sold at K-Mart and similar stores. Now that they have changed their name to LG, I think their quality has improved, but I just didn't feel comfortable sinking upwards of a thousand of my hard-earned dollars on a company or a product I'm not 100% comfortable with.

Of the panels you listed, my first choice would definitely be the Sony V5100, especially now that Sony has lowered the price to be competitive with others in its class.

By the way, although it's not among the ones you are considering, I chose the Samsung B650 and love it. I also own a 2008 Samsung A650 and also love it, so I decided to go with a proven technology. I also think very highly of Sony and have owned many of their products, including two TVs that I still have in the bedrooms of my house. I know the Samsung B650s are somewhat costlier than the Sony V5100s, so maybe that's why you didn't have the Sammy among your finalists. However, if you liked your Samsung A550, I'm guessing you would be blown away by the B650 with its deep blacks and brilliant colors.

In any case, from what I've seen in the stores and from what I've read, I think you may be very happy with the Sony V5100.

Good luck in whichever panel you choose.

Thanks for the input! I just cruised the BB site and a wrench has been thrown into the mix in that the 47LH40 is only a little more than the 40V5100 and 42LH40, and that extra size would be awfully nice...

Yes, I've seen them and they look awfully nice. While you're at BB, you might also want to check out the new Toshibas. They also seem to have excellent picture quality.

In any case, after you make your decision, let us know how well you like whichever one you get. It's various people's decisions and input that keep this forum going.
