Harman Kardon AVR-254 vs. Yamaha V663

Any advice on which would be a better choice?

I'm suspecting the Harman Kardon AVR-254 to sound better, but there seem to be a lot of issues with firmware, etc., that it seemed close to a deal breaker.

Anyone have thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

There are some issues with the 254, but I have one and they don't really bother me. If you pick one up from HK on their ebay store, they're shipping with the newest firmware and from what others have said is awesome.

I looked at the 663 before I got my 254, and the two HDMI ports kind of broke that.

The GUI on the 254 is sweet, really easy to set stuff up. Great sound, good power. It won't knock the walls down, but it's enough for what I need. I would recommend it.

But there are lots of others that like the 663.

If you have any other questions about the 254 I would love to help.
KrazyE, I am also looking at the HK 254. How hot does it get?
I have a 254 coming tomorrow, i hope it doesn't get too hot as i only have 3 inch clearance on top.
yea I hear you. I'm right there with you. I have an Onkyo 605 at the moment and it gets pretty hot. I love it, but no preouts

It gets warm, but not really hot. I'll run it pretty good with some serious movies but I never feel like it's too hot. This is my first true receiver, so I don't really have anything to compare it too.

However, I do have about 8-9 inches above it...

I wouldn't worry about the heat too much. I haven't heard much from other people about it getting too toasty.
