Just got my AVR 630 today and was under the impression that the fan comes on only when needed. Since I have turned the unit on and played with it several hours I have noticed the fan has not stopped once. Is this normal?

Thanks for the input

Jeez. Another HK problem thread...must be another "defective batch" that some folks have referred to before...

New question....

I called where I ordered the receiver and they told me that the fan is suppost to stay on contantly, that if I exchanged it the new unit would do the same thing. This is my first H/K product ever and I don't know what to expect (upgrade from an old sony STR-560). Should I just keep this unit? I dread having to ship if off, but I would want to if there is something not right with the unit I have now. The only thing I knew to try on troubleshooting was to do a processor reset, but that didn't help.

thanks for any info

Did you order this unit over the net in the first place? You didn't order this at a B&M store where you can just walk in and exchange?

This may be difficult to answer, but remember: No piece of electronics is going to be dead silent. The fan probably is working right to cool the unit.

How loud are we talking about here? What size room?

Room size is 13x22. The fan sounds a little louder than a fan on a projector. It is not noticeable when playing music, except at lower volumes. I have not put it in the cabinet yet, but this may help on the noise. I did purchase this on the net, mainly cause I live in the middle of nowhere, or more commonly known as oklahoma.

LOL!

Might be interesting to let it burn in for a while and see what you think...

There is an internal fan.

Look through the back... There is a spot to where a second fan could be placed towards the back of the chassis but further in there is an inside fan.

I've had a 630 for many months now - it's silent. I have to put my hand near the back to feel the air move to make sure it's on. If I remember correctly, it has two speeds: low and high and is on all the time.

I see a refurb straight from HK on Ebay right now for a steal. SO tempted...

Should I do it? 10 minutes left...

Ok I checked ... there is a Fan but in my unit it has never started yet ...

Maybe it doesn't have enough heat to start i've already been using it for more than a day with quite high volumes.....

I also think that the 220V AC Power supply produce less heat than the 120 Volt One ...

It is suppose to come on only when very warm to hot is what H/K told me. What is wrong with mine is it is not hot when the fan comes on. The H/K rep thinks it is a bad temp circuit. Anyway it is too anoying having it run all the time. I am calling the place of purchase monday and having them exchange it.
