I don't know about the Pioneer, but I just got the HK DV22 and all I can say is it is awesome. Hooked up via componant cables to my Panasonic PT500 projector with a 115 inch screen, it is as close to HD as I have seen.

Originally had an Aspire Digital 1100. Replaced that with The Norcent 501, upscaling to 1080i. Demoed the Samsung 841 using DVI, and also the Toshiba 592 using an HDMI to DVI adapter. Could never get the Toshiba to upscale. Both the Samsung & Toshiba went back.

The DV22 picture is fantastic and the sound is great. Just watched Friday Night Lights and the game scenes were very close to watching the Super Bowl in HD.
I've had the HK DV22 for several months now and find it to be an excellent player. System was calibrated by Greeg Lowen ( Lion AV) last month and pix is astonishing. I highly recommend this player..
