Harmony 659 battery usage

1412 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  deke rivers
is it me or does this remote just suck the AAA's dry quickly? thinking of upgrading to the 880 so that i will have a reechargable unit but when i looked at it in the store the feel of the buttons felt like they wouldnt last a month of usage

can anyone with the 880 comment on that? I really like my 659 an dhave had it for a couple of years now but im really getting tired of investing in batteries every month

I had to return my original 880 due to a tilt sensor problem, but I didn't have any problems with the buttons after a year of heavy usage (Tivo).

Why not just get rechargeables for the 659 if that is working good?
Might be something wrong with the remote. I've had the 659 for a year now and I've changed the batteries three times...four times max.

do you use it for a pvr unit? i use mine heavily for that...mine has chewed up batteries very frequent right out of the box

thats an option too..just figured it would be easier to have a rechargable unit rather than mess around popping batteries in out (rechargable batteries or not)
Well I use it for just about everything except a PVR unit. I control an HTPC, an audio receiver, a TV, and a couple game consoles with it. I have the backlight set to stay on for 5 seconds only. I use Duracell Ultra batteries with it.

I guess that's something to consider, the more you use your remote, the more the backlight stays on. I understand that's a major factor contributing to battery life.

my backlight does not come on unless i push the backlight button ..I use it so often though i dont even need the light on for most functions

i imagine the pvr functions are whats using up juice..ff and rewind, pause, etc...
