Harmony 659 thinks it's a 628

I just got a H659 but the web site thinks I have a 628. The buttons work like it's a 628. I can customize the buttons but the application thinks I have a 628 so I have to figure out the differences in the two remotes to program it. I hit SOUND and it thinks I want to rewind the TIVO, I hit EXIT and it thinks I want record on the TIVO. I've tried to call customer support but it just hangs up on me. Anyone else with this issue? Extremely frustrating!

I have a 659 and haven't had any problems at all with it or customer support. You say you call customer support and it hangs up on you? Customer support doesn't hang up on people. Don't know what you mean by "It hangs up on me".

Hangs up on me means I hit 1 for tech support, then I hit 1 for English and the system hangs up on me. I'm sure it's because it's a holiday weekend and they have either a high volume of calls or possibly they are closed but I didn't get a recording saying that on their system. I tried to update the firmware on the remote but the application recognizes my remote as a 628. The button layout on the 628 is different than my remote and my buttons are acting like a 628's, not like they are labeled on my unit.

I've tried going into safe mode on the remote and updating the firmware that way too with the same results.

Hopefully I'll be able to get into touch with tech support later this week.
I called twice on Christmas Day and the first time it hung up on me, just like you said. The second time I got a recording saying they were closed.


Hopefully, you will have better luck today. My new 659 is working perfectly other than one small problem. I'm very happy with it, especially it's ability to display CD artists and titles on it's LCD screen. I use a Music Server hidden away, and unless you have the TV on, you can't see what artist/album is on or to choose from.


But now I can look at the little LCD screen and I'm golden!

Well, I still haven't had any luck getting my remote to work. My account still shows that I have a 628 when I have a 659 and as a result the buttons don't work as expected. Customer support has been no help at all. Their e-mail responses to my problem have only told me to try the things I've already tried (uinstalling, reinstalling, connectivity check, firmware upgrade, safe mode) and they even asked me the color of my remote. As if I wasn't sure which model I have! The model number is printed on the remote and on the box for Pete's sake! They've told me to call customer support which I have not been able to get through to in 3 days. Not happy with this thing so far.

If possible have you tried:


1) Login and setup from a different computer

2) Setup another Member account and start from scratch


Just suggestions.
