I have a question about the Harmony 890. I know it uses RF to communicate with an Extender that then blasts an IR signal to the components. My question is does the remote unit itself send out an IR signal?


My reason for this question is this. My equipment will be behind a closed door more than 10 feet from the tv. With the Extender placed inside the cabinet I will not be able to run an IR transmitter cable to the TV and the TV will not be able to receive an IR signal "blasted" from the extender. Therefore I'm hoping the remote itself can send an IR signal to control the TV.

The 890 sends out both IR and RF. IR goes direct to devices that can see the remote RF is heard by the RF receiver and re-transmitted as IR to devices that can't see the remote.

I just setup an 890; and use IR emmiters on three components (satellite box, stereo receiver, and DVD player), and just the remote to control the TV. Works great.
