I know quite a few members that have bought items from them with no issues. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from Provantage. In fact, I would purchase from them before purchasing at SonyStyle. Their customer service is probably better
. Who knows, I might purchase a 550 from Provantage.

Dustin, I know you are pretty much set on purchasing the 550. Provantage's return policy on the 550 requires that you contact the manufacturer before returning the item to Provantage.

I don't know what this return policy actually entails (if you received a DOA), but you you might want to call or email them (before ordering), to find out what would happen if you got a dead unit out of the box. Would you still be required to call the manufacturer, or would Provantage exchange for another unit (no questions asked)?

It also states that the item is "special order". So it looks like once you place the order, Provantage orders it through their distributor (since they don't actually stock it), and once they receive it, they ship it to you.

It doesn't look like you can just return to them if you happen to not like the unit, (20%)restocking fee?. I would definitely wait until the unit is out before ordering if I was you.

resellerratings.com to verify to a degree sources of gear. I normally check that one first before considering an online source. I've seen even walmart.com link to some very shifty sources (

provantage.com == 7.8 / 10.0

Not bad, but not particularly good either. some complaints on processing time and if you ordered the wrong thing.

This was my first, and last time ordering from Provantage. Yes their pricing is great, but what good are prices if you don't get what you ordered??? I placed my order 11/29/10. They said it would take an extra "1 to 2 days" to get and I said fine. A week and a half later and now they tell me they don't expect to get it to them until 12/15/10, and then they still have to ship it to me. How did 2 days turn into over 2 weeks??? Calling customer service is useless. I have called twice, on different days and different times, and EVERY supervisor in the same meeting??? I call BS!!! They get you to order with low prices, then drag out delivery with the hopes that you will order something they have on hand so they can charge more for it. Did these guys used to sell used cars??

Interesting. I just googled "provantage scam" a couple of nights ago as they seem to have the best price on the new panny gh2 coming out. Found some pretty negative comments on sites.

Stay clear of Provantage. We ordered a toaster oven on March 24. We made a number of status checks right through May 13 when they still had not delivered saying each time, "estimated shipping date _ _ _ is _ _ _ (they just kept moving that date forward)" in a cryptic form notice. It was clear that the manufacturer did not want to provide the appliance at the price listed by Provantage. We join other commenters with the same experience. Talk about frustration and dissatisfaction. We've deleted Provantage from our shopping file. Just don't go there.

I once tried to buy a Turtle Beach X41 headset. It said it was in stock, and it said it was shipped by TurtleBeach.com, so directly from the maker, as if you bought it from the official website, but at a cheaper price.

A couple weeks after my order, it still hadn't been shipped, and I finally got an email saying they don't have any in stock and wouldn't have anymore until whatever date, which was about a month from whatever date it was at the time.

I canceled my order.

Nice prices, but I'll stay away from them in the future.

I just purchased a computer case from them and was very unhappy with the experience. They quoted a price $2-$3 cheaper than Amazon and Newegg. There were no shipping charges quoted on the site, in the shopping cart, during the checkout, on the order total, or in my written order confirmation. However, the charges on my credit card statement did not match the order total. After talking to them, I found out that they tacked on some excessive and unauthorized shipping fees. That is totally dishonest. I will never buy from them again. It would have been MUCH better to buy from an honest and reputable vendor instead.
