I have searched. Many people have asked but I could not find a post from someone who actually bought them and what they thought of them.

So if you have purchased the Ready Bag from Ready Acoustics, do you like it? Is the microsuede AT?

Thanks!

I bought 8 from them a couple of years ago and I really like them. I put them at the first order and second order reflection points and the results are good. When you walk next to them it makes you feel like your ear nearest to the bag is plugged up. They are a quality product well made etc.

Why not buy some fabric and make your own acoustical panels?

I'm having a hard time justifying spending my time on it. I've done just about everything myself in my theater. I already got the OC703 from SPI which saved a ton of money. Ready Bags are $30 each.

GOM is usually 54" wide and one yard costs $10 or more? Each 2x4 OC703 piece would require roughly 1.5 yards. $15 for fabric plus wood plus hangers etc. It's not hard to see my way to near $30 and sink a bunch of time trying to make them "right". I did my own screen but that was $75 vs. spending $500.

Am I missing something?

Actually the combination of the cover and the insulation is pretty stable. I actually have them hanging on a pitched ceiling in a bonus room. I was able to run a few dry wall screws on the side through the fabric and insulation and they are very stable and I never worry about them moving. I went with these becuase for $30 I felt like it was a pretty good deal and they look nice.

Well, after the Ready Bags in black were on backorder for 3 weeks, I broke down and built my own.

I got a 4x8 piece of hardiboard cut into 4 2x4 pieces at Home Depot ($8)

I had a 40% off coupon at JoAnn's fabric so I got 4 yards of Speaker Grill Cloth @ $5.99/yd (regularly $9.99/yd)

I tried using my Craftsman staple gun but ended up needing screws to secure the cloth to the hardiboard ($12)

So I proved myself wrong to some degree. Ready Bags $30. My materials $11 each. Took me about 6 hours of work. Saved about $70 and enjoyed it. I think the Ready Bag material is nicer than the cloth I have but they look fine and are very functional. Instant bass and sound improvement in my room!

I constructed them without wood to save money. I laid 1 yard of speaker cloth (36x62) out on a counter top. Then I laid my OC703 on to it. Then I laid my 2'x4' hardiboard on the insulation. I folded the cloth onto the hardiboard and stapled/glued/screwed until the fabric was nice and tight on the front of the panel. JoAnns speaker grill cloth is a tight enough weave that you can not see the yellow insulation behind it.

I got the construction idea from this video though they use wood to make air space away from the wall.

dlp3719: Thanks for your work and effort of posting your results here. A good contribution to the forum for future reference. I need to make some acoustic panels and every little hint or trick that I can read will help me in the long run.

I'm in Atlanta. 2 different Jo Ann's had it. The product name is actually "Speaker Grill Cloth". Tight black weave. Acoustically transparent. Stretches somewhat. Can't see thru it unless there is a lot of light behind it.

They do not sell it online. Only in store. I dont have any more info than that. I think their standard fabrics are 54" wide. This stuff is 62" wide. So it was with a bunch of other oversized fabrics.

Hope that helps a little.

Just an FYI to anyone interested in this product. I placed a very large order in February for a theater I'm doing. I have yet to receive everything from Ready Traps (I received about 2/3rds of the order). After about a month of trying to get ahold of someone and get it resolved, with absolutely zero response, I had to do a chargeback with my credit card company (I was charged for the full order price on the first shipment about 50 days ago).

I really like the product which is why I'm switching companies to another provider of a similar product that actually answers the phone and ships within a few days.

I purchased some last friggin February, 6 months later I found out they didn't have them anymore but would get some. Three friggen months later I asked for my money back, a month after that I asked again and they said they did refund my credit card, I checked my credit card and there was no refund, I e-mailed them again with no reply, I waited another friggin month and called Joel DuBay and left a message for him to call me or at least reply to my e-mails, another month and no luck. I am going to try him again right now and if I'm not successfull maybe my lawyer will be.

As ref, There is a link in my sig to making acoustic panels.

For RFZ reflection points, best is 4" OC703 (equiv) thickness + 4" airgap, with the back opened, not covered with a board.

If you can't afford that much real estate into your listening space, then 2" OC703 (or equiv) + 2" airgap.

This way will act as broadband absorber instead of just hi freq absorber for better balance.

I won't get into the whole Measurement/ETC thing here, just know that applying treatments w/o good rationale may overdampen your room and not solve all the issues.

Also, broadband bass traps in corners/wall-ceiling are needed for low freq.

fwiw, I built my side wall acoustic treatments with JoAnn's black speaker grille cloth, had a 40% off coupon (they seems to always be some coupon you can use). Just ask the ladies there, they know exactly where it is.

[edit]

wow, 2 year old thread.....
