Has anyone ever wall mounted a pair of 1099s?

Just curious if anyone has ever done this. I have previously wall mounted some pretty big speakers with some Omnimounts, but they only go up to 25 lbs.

For flat against the wall, french cleats.

If you need to hold them off the wall, or toe in/out, your best bet is probably a TV wall mount rated for 80+ lbs.

I’d build a custom French cleat out of wood attached to at least one stud.

Here’s another version in metal

HurricaneDitka,

I've never wall mounted 1099's, but I have wall mounted a pair of 1299's in my garage. I built an angled shelf for them - they tilt forward at about a 13 degree angle. I have them tethered at the top to studs in the wall so they won't fall and crush anyone. I opted to mount them upside down so the waveguide is at ear level for me.

+1 for the full motion mount
DIYSG list a full 1099 as weighing in at about 70#

in the pic, these are good for up to 55-ish but have exceptional reach, 28", iirc

"You gonna need a bigger mount"

Thanks for all the responses guys. I don't think the french cleat will work because I do need to toe them in a bit. I was considering this because I really didn't want to build them as towers, but that is probably the smartest way to go.

You could find your angle of toe-in and then make wedge spacers then use French cleats to mount the 1099 to the wedge.

This is what I did with my TLAH left and right channels. Worked like a charm! Since they don't weigh nearly as much as a 1099, I made the wedge from 2X4 cut to the angle that I liked. I screwed the wedge to the rear cover of the speaker and put the cleats on the wedge then put the opposite cleat to a 1X4 that's screwed into the closest stud since the studs didn't match up with where I wanted to place the speakers.

Sorry, I didn't really document the wedge build very well, but it was very simple to cut a wood triangle and attach it IMO. You can see they are toed in and sort of see the 1X4 for supporting them.

I really like the french cleat idea. It can be made to carry a ton of weight too. This is a scale mockup of what I'm trying to do with my 82" Samsung and a set of 1099 LCRs.

I assume wall mounting them will transfer a ton of vibration to the upstairs and rest of the house though? I should probably build some big sand filler speaker stands.

Not likely. I would assume you cross them over @80hz. They shouldn’t transfer much energy into the wall.

They will be run by the Denon AVRX6500H. I'm not sure if it has variable crossover points or if it's just the basic large/small speaker setting.

I'm sure it does, the 6500 is far from their base model. Both my x2000 and x2100 have separate crossover settings for pairs of speakers (front, surround, etc.) and they were much closer to the base models at the time.

OJ,

Thanks. Yeah, I'm kind of an idiot. The pair of 1299's and 10 wall mounted VBSS subs in my garage are my main music system. I don't have anything of interest in the house.
