Just wondering about the arrival of the Panasonic PT-L500U. I guess its almost like the third coming of the same projector. Geeez.


Anyways, just wondering if anyone has ordered a PTL500U and I guess as time goes on, this thread would also serve as a "who has received their PT-L500U?".


I don't imagine there are going to be any differences with the projector vs the PT- AE500U, however, manufacturers often make changes to production, and the release this model which is essentially identical may coincide with some changes in the quality control in the very least.


Would be good to hear about overall picture quality and of course, the vertical banding. Although I'm looking for an L300 to upgrade from my AE100, I may just take the leap with the PTL500U. Saving up

I haven't heard of anyone here getting one yet. It is in fact the 3rd coming of the same projector . It's interesting though that a US projector would still have the D4 input.

I still haven't seen anyone shipping though.

My AE500 doesn't have a D4 input, at least I don't think it does.

Hrm... pretty certain mine did. Now I have to go home and look. I know I have 2 choices under PC, DVI and I thought D4.

Didn't you get the Japanese version imported? I got the American version that's from the presentation/business line. I bet if you had one imported you DO have a D4.


Maybe THAT'S why yours looks better! Always buy import!

D4 input in US version? The last samurai didn't survive the Golden Globe but The last Projector is on its way to Grammy.

Ah, yes. Ok, I do have the import version. I thought they were the same. Interesting, what does your have in it's place? Still have the SD disk capability or something?

I'll have to look when I get home, I just remember the back panel being almost identical to the 300.

I wonder if anyone is getting order confirmations yet? I think the flicker adjust sounds like the best bet yet so I'm not expecting huge changes in the next batch. Just wondering if the re-badge will be anything more than a different model number period. There have been tiny differences with others. Hope the price drops for all the pannys too

AE was announed at Dec 17, it hit the market the next day.....

what happened the the L? it been 3 days since the announcement....

And of course the AE is still out there. Some stores and customers out there must be like.."What the heck is this? The same projector?". I see the AE500 is dropping in price at various places. The L200 and L300 aren't budging in price though.

Yep, at one online retailer, the 300u is $200+ more than the AE500!

Panny insists to release L500U around mid February, rumor is it will bundle with couple grams of Viagra, tropical scented candle lights, new line of erotic VC’s lingerie in nice little Valentine package. Now tell your spouse how you like to spend the Valentine with her.

Preordered mine a couple weeks ago and they said that I would be billed the day they ship and as of right now I haven't seen the charge. The site I ordered from was predicting the 16th back then even though it said only "February" on the page but they have since updated it to "February 23-25th" ... So... I'm going crazy with anticipation!

just wondering...why not order the the ae500, which is available now in other stores? aren't they both basically the same?

I think they are the same but I don't know for sure. The main reason I ordered the PT is that I didn't need it for a week or so and figured I could hold of a little longer than that if I had to plus for preordering I got it for $1845 + free shipping and that's the best deal I could find during my shopping around.
