This forum has so much info on the Denon1910/790 and also the Onkyo 607. My brain is numb from sifting through all the thread here and reviews on the net arguing "this and that".

I keep reading batpig's thread about "what is gained comparing the 1909 & 1910"

Could a list be made by people adding there thoughts about WHAT IS GAINED between the 1910 and the Onkyo 607.

JUST a list of PROS no CONS!

Like with the 1910 you gain 1080p conversion!

And with the 607 you gain 2 more HDMI's

Because when it comes to all the specs and processes each of them have I get completely lost!!!

By the way I understand about the heat issue with Onkyo's I've had one.

Sorry for the dumb newbie question but I think it would be a little clearer for the average person if all the specs and process (ex: DTS-HD) were listed a one model was given the thumbs up over the other model.

This is how they compare digital cameras of many camera sites! I just think it would made a lot of this clearer!

The 1910 uses a better video chip (ABT) and uses a more advanced Audyssey (MultEQ) vs. the 2EQ on the 607.

Don't mean to thread-jack. @rnatalli - you mentioned the ABT chip. Can you give me an idea about how useful this is? Does it upconvert files you stream from your pc, Netflix streamed movies, as well as DVD upconversion?

Correct if I'm wrong BUT I think I have read the ABT chip upconvert everything but a wii I guess because it is native 480p.

The 1910 is more comparable to the Onkyo SR707 price wise and features. I'm not surprised the vote is currently 6:1 for the Denon.

Yes Knucklehead90 you are right the 707 is a closer match.

Two questions: At what model level does Denon have THX certification? Onkyo has it starting with the 707

And does the 1910 do "2 channel stereo" across all speakers like the 707 can?

But I would guess it is a typical new price. Electronic Expo has the 1910 for $389.47 (shipped) using promo code "president". You have to go all the way to the amazon checkout review page to see the final discounted price. I am researching too, so I have not advice for you. These links talk about the video chips (not the onkyo's though) but I haven't found these to be very helpful, and can be misleading. http://www.anchorbaytech.com/vrs_tec...turing_vrs.php and http://www.anchorbaytech.com/products/semiconductors/

oh and this is an excellent thread, though I'm not sure if these two avr's are talked about in them or not... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1173185

THANKS THANKS but now I got to make a decision $400 for a AVR1910 or wait maybe 4-6 months to get a price around $480-$500 for a SR707

You're wrong. It converts a wii up to 1080 as well. IIRC you need to use the composite cable. The 1910 does not upscale component signals to 1080 via the HDMI output. But it will pass 1080 from component as long as 1080 is being fed via component.

At $400 the 1910 seems to be a no-brainer - at least to me. The SR707 is a good AVR but isn't $100 better than the 1910.

Knucklehead90 your probably right I'm going to go to Fry's this weekend and compare the 1910 vs 707 with same source for video and music and same speakers. That should be an "apples to apples" comparison.

My concerns are I "think" I like clear brighter sounding music do to the fact I have had the TX-DS797 since it came out, not big on bass. So will I like the "warm" sound of the Denon?

And second in movie mode will I notice the missing THX modes for the sounds of bullets, explosions, etc. I won't know till I compare them....

Last thought is I plan on letting my BD/DVD or HDTV deal with upscaling. Plus I'm guessing in a few years this upconversion will be less and less important. I could be wrong and probably am lol!

ANY COMMENTS ON THESE THOUGHTS?

I think I will be trying to decide between the $200 difference of the 1910 and the 2310.

When you sample at Fry's, or anywhere else, getting your hands on the remotes would probably be a must, but I'm not for sure.

I have a new Harmony One remote waiting

Fry's doesn't have the 2310ci to compare. But when I was there last I noticed the Onkyo are not that hot and they had been on for over 10 hours then I was testing.

When you compare feature sets (THX processes etc) you have to go up to the Denon 48xx for MSRP $2999 to match up just passing the TX-SR707. I tend to keep coming back to this point.

What scares me about the Onkyo is the customer support stories. Once you buy it it's your problem, and you'll pay out the nose to get it fixed if they well even do that!!!! This will probably be the deal breaker!

Of all of the major AVR manufacturers Harman Kardon probably has the best customer service. Instead of sending gear in for repair they replace the item - and when they don't have the model that you do - they upgrade to the next newer model. I had a 247 die on me - they sent a 254 for replacement. The 254 worked great - I sold it.

THX is more marketing than anything. Personally I don't consider THX as anything beyond a label.

I have had Onkyo repairs done on my first AVR. It wasn't a fortune, there were no problems but it did take some time due to what I was told an out of stock part.

I went from an Onkyo TX-DS595 to my current Denon AVR-789 and i can truthfully say the Denon sounds noticeably better, with better clarity at the same sound levels and same speakers. I like the Audyssey MultEQ very much.

Personally, I think you have it correct with the letting your TV do the upscaling. And they claim the 1910 does better than the 1909 (really a 790 & 789 respectively) but after seeing it side by side, I saw no discernible difference in video quality. The remote control for both models suck, but you are getting a Harmony (I also have Harmony) and that makes all the difference in the world. I have not used my Denon remote but I think once or twice.

I love Onkyo. The heat issue is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overblown in my opinion and I am sure you will agree with me on that. You can believe that the Denon gets 'warm' as well in use. No more and no less in my experience. I can certainly understand the desire for more than 3 HDMI inputs but in my case, 3 is ample and likely to tide me over (there are 3 component inputs as well) for as long as I own the 789 and I plan on owning it for many years to come. HOWEVER, the reason I bought the Denon over an Onkyo is because I got a fabulous deal on the last day before Circuit City closed its doors here. And when I say fabulous I mean $200 and some change, including shipping, tax, title and license and I couldn't touch the Onkyo for less than double that for the same feature set(s). After hearing it when I got home, and my wife (who has NO interest in these things) came out of the bedroom and exclaimed how wonderful the new "stereo" sounded, without being questioned by me, I knew I had a keeper.

I like the 789 (1909) better than the 790 (1910) for the display, the added (albeit minor) weight gain and the great deal. I have had Denon service (I bought it broken, hence the great deal and why nobody else snatched it up) and they were fast and no charge. I still have the 2 year warranty. You can get the 789 (1909) for a song now, if you were interested in one.

Good luck on your decision, I know there are alot of choices out there. I found my 789 when I wasn't even in the market for a new AVR, (and if I hadn't gotten such a good deal I would still be perfectly content with my 595) so I can imagine if I were in the market how difficult the decision would have been.

Splicer010 Thanks for taking the time to be so forthcoming!

Maybe if you see this you could answer one more concern. I have read several times you have to turn the volume to like 75-80% on the denon to 45-50% on the Onkyo to reach the same gains/output But the the difference is only 10 watts a channel. Does that mean the Denon has to "work" alot harder to perform at the same level?

Or have I been fed a bunch of bull poo?
