Just saw this on www.techbargains.com:

State Street has the Hauppauge WinTV-D HDTV/Cable Ready Tuner Card for only $139.95

Is this card any good? I haven't heard much talk about it around here, it seems like everyone just talks about MyHD, HiPix, and HiDTV.

I was curious so I took a look at the datasheet. It says:

"After decoding the digital TV picture is rendered into a 480i format"

I would interpret this as it does not really 'capture' HDTV in 1080i, but down converts it to fit in 480i format, looks like maybe the next board up is the one that does do it.

You know, I hadn't actually looked at this card in detail yet. I just looked at the data sheet too. So it receives and decodes HDTV signals but only has an s-video output. Basically, it's not worth much unless you don't have an HDTV. Oh well...

I have one I got from that JandR blowout about a year or two ago ($54 delivered). Honestly, it's not the best. The quality with an analog signal is practically useless. Digital quality is far better, but it's still limited to 480.
