It appears that the model number for the Hauppauge HD-PVR is 1212, and the current retail price is about $200. However, if you do a search for Hauppauge 1288, the specs appear identical, the product photo looks the same, but the price is about $60. However, the only reference I can find to a model number 1288 on Hauppauge's web site is for an internal PCI card TV tuner.
Does anyone know what is going on here? I'm guessing this is a massive, widespread error - is there some sort of "master catalog" that all of these web stores pull their info from, and it is wrong? If so, you would think that it would have been corrected by now, as a lot of people will be sorely disappointed when the product they receive is nothing like what the ordered. (Assuming that model number 1288 is not an HD PVR of course.) The only other thing I can think of is possibly the 1288 is an earlier, discontinued version but this doesn't seem likely - not with a higher model number...
For $60, I've been tempted to buy one to see what shows up, but I'm almost certain this is a mistake and I'd rather not have the hassle of returning it when the wrong part shows up.
