I'm pretty sure that the 501 is like the Dishplyer 7X00 (and DirecTivo) in that it does not have an MPEG encoder, only a decoder. Thus it is only capable of recording encoded material that comes in via satellite.

There are plans for a second DP7xx model with two tuners later in the year.

I think they said they are looking at a HDTV/PVR solution in a year or two - this might record OTA DTV.

I have a 6000 system with dual sats. The Dish 500 has (I think ?) the twin LNBF. The system shipped with two SW 21 switches, and I am currently using one.

1.) If I want to add a dishplayer 501 can I get away with the using the second sw21 or do I have to use a Dish 500 with dual LNBF and a sw64?

2.) Are there any plans to make an Ultimate TV compatible with Dish network?

3.) Can I record OTA 8VSB or cable TV (for locals) with the 501?

Thanks
