Like a lot of people here, I've been comparing sets and technologies for a long time. I've finally about decided to go with a Mits DLP but, being concerned about the reflections on the 525 series, I went down to Tweeters to check out the 725s. They didn't have any on the floor but he offered to pull one out of the back so I could check it out. I had him pull the 62725 and I viewed the DVD loop and the HD loop. I thought it had a good picture but the colors seemed a little muted and the set wasn't very bright. I'm thinking that the protective screen just can't compete with the torch fluorescent showroom lights even though the 725s are supposed to have less glare than the 525. The whites in particular didn't look as white as several of the other sets without any protective screen. My eyes kept going back to a Panasonic DLP across the room that seemed much brighter and the contrast seemed better. Do you think this is just because I was comparing a 62" to a 50"? I was less than impressed with the AR coating on the 725.

The biggest problem that I have though is with the price. Unfortunately, Sears and BB only carry the 525 series and not the 725. Since there is nobody locally to price match the 725, the price I was given by Tweeters is $100 under MSRP. Sears quoted me a price on the 62525 that was $900 less. At this point I'm thinking of just having Tweeters price match the 62525 and then just remove the screen. I'm really choking on a $900 difference between the two. I was hoping that he would use the price match on the 525 as a base and then add the difference in MSRP between the 525 and the 725 but he said he couldn't do it. Again, I think it's just a case of not having to since I can't get the 725 anywhere else.

I actually went ahead and got the 1 year - no payments deal on the Mits card and the 62725 will be delivered tomorrow if I stick with the deal. I walked out feeling kind of sick though. I'm just thinking that given the price difference, the 525 might be better. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have been looking at these two sets also. They are identical except for the protective screen. Both screens have an unacceptable amount of glare. Look again at the 525 series in BB, but have them remove the protective screen, a very easy procedure. The picture will then look great. But the plastic frame will have an unfinished appearance, since a groove will show where the screen used to be. Mitsubishi will be offering a simple $30 trim kit to rectify this problem and give the set a truly finished appearance. Mitsubishi is one of the few DLP sets with a protective screen. Too bad that its glare destroys the viewing experience. Aside from the glare issue, I would be more concerned with rainbows, fan noise, tilt in the projected image and bulb life, but these are all other topics.

I too noticed the lower brightness but I think that it is the factory set up. I am convinced that if you set it with a calibration DVD that it will be fine. The engine in both sets is the same and with the same size screen they should be identical. You can remove the anti glare screen.

As for the price issue, I was shocked that at a Tweeters last night I saw a floor model 52525 being sold at a substantial discount. Why would they be selling off their floor model already?

On the 62725, if you still want it I would suggest you go back to Tweeters and work the salesman. Last night at my Tweeters I got a much better price than you did for the 62725 after working the salesman for a while. I am hesitant to quote any numbers. Don't want to violate posting rules.

Man, I thought I would never hear anyone complain about the brightness on this set. I have one (62725) in my living room and I have turn the contrast and brightness down just to watch it. I guess it looks different in bright showroom compared to home.

I suggested several "pricing alternatives" to the salesman but he insisted that he had no flexibility on the price. This was right after he said he would price match on the 525. Too bad nobody else in town carries the 725. So, would most of you just get the 525 and then remove the screen? Anyone have any idea how "finished" the set will look with the trim kit? I couldn't see the 52" next to the 62" but for those of you who have is the 52 much brighter?

I have seen both the 525 and the 725 side by side at two locations. The 525 had the screen removed at both places. Picture don't look bad at all without the screen on the 525. There seemed to be a more 3d (depth) effect though with the

725 w/ screen.

I'm sort of in a similar spot as you. I want the 725, but they won't give me a 30 day window if I see rainbows.

I'm prolly going to go to BB, get the 525... use it for 2 weeks. If I don't see rainbows, take it back and get the 725 from the local audio/video store.

Regarding my previous post about a 62725 I saw vs other sets. Went back today and learned that the set was "out of the box" and not calibrated. The store set up guy has been swamped with customer installs.

My salesman comes back from vacation on Oct. 31 and I will pull the trigger on that date to catch the no interest/no payments till Jan 2006 deal.

Will spend the time till then getting spot and hook ups ready.
