Looking to ceiling mount my first projector (5050UB) but I have a textured ceiling and my stud finder isn't working on it like it does on a flat surface. Thinking of using one of these https://www.videomount.com/pages/Mounting-Accessories/IBA-1/170 if I can figure out where to open the ceiling. Anyone used one or have advice? I'm not sure how I'd manage to hit an i-joist square with a screw to hold the projector directly when I can't find it with the stud finder either.

Thanks.

Also wondering, I know there are four places in the base plate to use a screw, but is the idea with these that you only use two of them? I'm not sure how you attach them to a 4" x 5" area when you are using ceiling joists.

You probably have furring strips running perpendicular to your joists.

Try moving your stud finder in the opposite direction than what the joists are.

If that does work...

I'd cut a small hole where you want to place your projector and use it to investigate what is up there. Then you can cover it up with plywood when you are done.
