Hawkeye Series Starring Jeremy Renner in the Works at Disney+
By Joe Otterson, Variety.com - Apr. 10, 2019

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is the latest member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to line up his own Disney+ series.

Variety has learned from sources that Disney’s upcoming streaming service is officially developing a limited series based on the archery ace Marvel character with Renner attached to star. The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.

Disney and Marvel declined to comment. Reps for Renner declined to comment.

Renner has been a part of the MCU since he first appeared as Hawkeye in an uncredited cameo in “Thor.” He has since played the role in “Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Captain America: Civil War.” He will next appear in “Avengers: Endgame,” which hits theaters on April 26. Renner is also known for his Oscar-nominated roles in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town” as well as films such as “American Hustle,” “Arrival,” and “Wind River.”

He is repped by CAA and Felker Toczek.

As Variety previously reported, there are also Disney+ limited series in the works that will focus on MCU characters like Falcon and Winter Soldier, as well as Loki, Vision, and Scarlet Witch. The series are expected to be six to eight episodes. The series on the Disney+ will be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, who has headed up the MCU for years. The shows are also expected to have large budgets compared to other television projects.

Netflix previously had its own Marvel TV universe, consisting of the shows “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” (which all fed into “The Defenders” miniseries) and “The Punisher.” However, with the imminent launch of Disney+, all of those shows have been canceled within the past few months.

Hopefully they will avoid the DC problem with Bow n Arrows.

Green Arrow, on tv, fought many villians that also used the same weapon so that and relationship garbage took most of the fun out of the show.

Can't they just look at some of the Comics and see how major villians were handled ?

Agreed, it is like the Flash. Every enemy, hero, etc. seems to be another speedster.

At least on flash, these are his typical comic book story arch enemies.

Hailee Steinfeld In Talks To Star In ‘Hawkeye’ On Disney+

Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to join the cast of Hawkeye, the Marvel superhero stand-alone series set for the soon-to-launch Disney+ streaming service, Deadline has confirmed. Jeremy Renner is reprising his MCU role as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye.

The project is described as an adventure series in which Barton will pass the torch to Kate Bishop, a member of the group known as the Young Avengers and first female to take the Hawkeye name after Barton. Steinfeld would play Barton.

The series is part of Marvel’s major contribution to the slate of Disney+, which launches November 12. Also in the works are series based on Marvel characters including Loki, Vision & Scarlet Witch, and Falcon and Winter Solider among others.

Similar to Hawkeye, the MCU film world, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is turning over his hammer to Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. That will happen in Thor Love and Thunder in fall 2021.

Steinfeld, who stars in the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series Dickinson, most recently was on the big screen in the Transformers pic Bumblebee and voiced Gwen Stacy in Sony’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Variety first broke the news of the Steinfeld talks.

Hawkeye Set Video Reveals First Look at Vera Farmiga
A new set video from the set of Hawkeye reveals the first look at Vera Farmiga who is reportedly playing Kate Bishop's mother on the Disney+ series.

A new Hawkeye set video reveals the first look at Vera Farmiga's character. Jeremy Renner reprises his MCU role as Clint Barton, this time, on the small screen, through the upcoming Marvel Studios/Disney+ TV show. Production has been in full swing for a while now with one of its stars providing an interesting update with regard to how things are going with the series.

Part of the first batch of projects announced on the heels of the Infinity Saga, Hawkeye was officially confirmed by MCU mastermind Kevin Feige during San Diego Comic-Con 2019. At that point, details about the film were scant, with only Renner is confirmed to be part of the cast, but with the expectations that the project will also debut Kate Bishop. Due to varying reasons, mainly the coronavirus pandemic, development on Hawkeye was stilted for a while; there were no official updates regarding additional cast members until after filming has begun with the sighting of Hailee Steinfeld nabbing the role of Kate.

Not long after, an influx of additional actors boarding Hawkeye was announced including Farmiga, who is playing Eleanor Bishop — Kate's mother. As she and the rest of the team behind the show work hard for it, the actress took some time off from the set and gave the first glimpse at her in costume as her MCU character. Check out the video below which was originally posted on Farmiga's IG Stories (via Marvel News)

The Bishop matriarch has an interesting narrative in the comic books. For a time, she was perceived to be dead, leaving Kate to be raised by her businessman father. Later on, it was revealed that she's actually alive and is working behind-the-scenes working for the villain Madame Masque — a character who was already established in the MCU through Agent Carter and is also highly rumored to make a re-emergence in Hawkeye. That being said, there were also claims that while the antagonist is set to factor on the Disney+ show, she won't be the narrative's main antagonist. Nevertheless, it could still effectively set up Eleanor's role — perhaps this storyline will be further explored on a potential second season.

Whatever the case may be, Eleanor's involvement in Hawkeye will more likely be bad news for Clint and Kate. Marvel Studios tends to stick to their source material when launching a new character in the MCU; in the few times that they veered too far away, there was pushback most notably in Iron Man 3's depiction of The Mandarin. Given this, it's safe to say that they will be somewhat faithful to the comics when adapting Eleanor on the screen.
