Hazy blue circle in Z2 image.

2261 Views 40 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  leedees
I am getting a hazy blue circle in the middle of the image on my 2000 hour Z2. The bluish area is about one quarter of the image area.

Anyone know if there is a user fix or if I need to be sending it to Sanyo repair?

Probably a dust blob. Adjust your focus and you should see it sharpen up.

You can open your projector and blow it out fairly easily
Wow, 2000 hours and this is your first dust blob? Your home must be spotless! I'm at less than 1,500 hours, and I've done it at least 4 times already. What's your secret. Are you using any special air filtration in your home theater room? I am puzzled by your description of the problem though. One quarter of the panel is a pretty damned big dust blob. I wonder if it could be something else.
That IS amazing. I have avoided LCD projectors for that simple reason. Our home is clean, but we have cats and kids, so dust gets in. Pretty sweet deal if that is the first time.

Someone has suggested that the Z2 won't start with a 2000 hour lamp inside...is this true or did you reset it? Mine has 1100 hours or so and I have one dust blob which is slightly visible on a total black screen...however....it is located very high and to the right of the image...so I'm going to leave it for now. If I do a focus on a dark screen....I can see several more...but they are not visible so again...I'll wait. Nice to see people getting decent hours out of their bulbs.
I hope it's dust. I have the same type light blue shading to approximately 1/3 to 1/4 the screen on my Sanyo XP21 and it's probably not dust but a bad red LCD panel. Too expensive to repair on my out of warranty unit.
Just bragging that my Z2 has been blob free since I put it up for Superbowl last Feb.

Of course, I will have to take it apart this weekend since I posted that.
I'm closing in on 1,000 hours and have a barely visible green blob at the bottom center of my screen only when there is a blank image. I received this blob complements of Studio Experience during my last service visit. They cleaned the pj and returned it that way and it's never gotten worse so I just ignore it.
I know dust blobs and this ain't a dust blob guys...

...it is a hazy blue area in the middle of the screen about 1/4 of the total image. It's BIG. You may call it a blue tinted area that is roughly circle shaped.

BTW, the projector has 2000 hours on it, not the lamp. This lamp has 300 hours on it.
Could you try to take a screenshot?

It sounds like hotspotting, but I think you would have noticed that well before now.
Ah yes, I once had a dust blob free 2HD projector but recently it developed several ghostly green dust blobs just like Marissadad's projector. After taking off the top panel, I fired up our 4 gallon industrial air compressor and annihilated all of them. :) I also removed the air filter and cleaned it. Once I had the projector back up, the picture seem very sharp and clear. My imagination? I just have one question. Is it possible to cause misalignment of the panels with compressed air?
My Z2 started something similar just the other day. Light blue haze starting at right upper corner spreading down across the screen. Looks like a light leak. I am also on my second bulb with 300 hours on it. No luck contacting sanyo warranty support. All I get is a recording to leave my info on so they can call me back. I did just that and guess what?....they haven't called me back. Big suprise, huh?

I also have that upper right corner brightness that looks like a light leak in addtion to the blue hazy area in the middle of the screen!

Anyway, it is annoying to have to leave messages but the Sanyo service center has called me back twice and I have missed the calls both times! They are in CA and I am in FL so the window of availability is a bit smaller.

I expect we'll make contact today and I will keep the forum advised of my experiences. An earlier experience with the Sanyo warranty service was very satisfactory.
Where did you purchase your replacement bulb? I got mine from IAVI.COM

Wondering if the bulb could have something to do with it.
I picked up the replacement lamp at B&H photo but the color problems existed with the prior lamp as well. I was hoping the new bulb would solve the problems but no luck.

FWIW I have still not been able to make voice contact with Sanyo Service,

now it is getting annoying after three days. It is a lame system they have for providing customer service.
Update: Sanyo Service contacted me and they suspect an overheating issue.

This unit is well-ventilated and the filter is kept clean.

We are sending it out to them.
sanyo finally called me back today. after running me through the mill, they finally faxed over a return authorization. now i just have to ship it tomorrow and hope for the best. wish me luck.
Would you guys please keep this thread updated or if not, possibly keep me updated on the outcome of your situation with Sanyo. I had the exact same problem with mine since July. Except mine was a very noticable yellow- in light scenes, green- in dark ones, and spread from the top left corner through the center of hte screen, taking up approx. 1/4 of the screen. Now it is only very noticable in very few scenes so I haven't sent it in yet. Partly because when I did contact Sanyo they used scare tactics on me saying in all likelyhood it was a maintenance problem on my part and that I would be charged $500 for the replacement of the lcd panels. Now by no means is my house spotless, but I do keep the pj clean and don't see how this is my problem for a crappy air filter they designed. And by the way can someone tell me where in the manual or else where, where Sanyo states a maintenance schedule for the air filter or even where it directs to clean the air filter, I have seen none. So I guess my concern is, yes I want my pj fixed, but just worried if I send it in they say it's my fault and they want $500! So if you guys could keep me informed I would appreciate it, your experience with Sanyo on this problem will probably have a large impact on whether I even bother to send it in.

Fedex picked up my projector yesterday. They even paid for shipping! Got my fingers crossed.
I'll definitely keep the thread updated.

I was closely questioned by the tech about how often I clean the filter as well. He was suggesting an overheating problem.

The filter is never very dusty when I clean it. I probably clean it every few weeks because I am blowing out dust from the panels at least that often.

This repair problem is definitely not a maintenance issue. I anticipate a satisfactory result.

I am curious about one thing. According to the hour counter on this Z2, I am using it 50 hours per week. I have difficult time believing that when I think about my viewing habits. I think 25-30 hours is more realistic.
