HBO Max Orders ‘Minx’ Comedy Series Starring Ophelia Lovibond & Jake Johnson From Lionsgate

HBO Max has given a ten-episode order to half-hour comedy pilot Minx. The new series, headlined by Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, hails from Ellen Rapoport, Paul Feig’s Feigco Entertainment and Lionsgate Television.

The cast of Minx also includes series regulars include Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano and Oscar Montoya. Johnson, who was originally cast as a guest star in the pilot, also is a series regular.

Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx, written by Rapoport, centers around an earnest young feminist (Lovibond) who joins forces with a low-rent publisher (Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women.

“We are so excited about this series, which is fun, feminist, and wholly unique, and we couldn’t ask for a better cast or partners in Ellen, Rachel, Feigco and Lionsgate,” said
Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max.

Rapoport serves as showrunner and executive produces the series alongside Feig and Dan Magnante for Feigco Entertainment. Rachel Lee Goldenberg directed and executive produced the pilot. Lionsgate Television is the studio.

“I’m so grateful to Feigco, Lionsgate and HBO Max for seeing the potential in this story from the first time I showed up in their offices with stacks of 70s porn magazines,” said Rapoport. “Making Minx with our ridiculously talented cast was a dream come true and I’m just thrilled that I get to do it again.”

This is the second series at HBO Max for a Feigco and Lionsgate Television project, joining Love Life, which has been renewed for a second season.

“We fell in love with Ellen’s trunkful of male nudie magazines and her amazing vision for this funny and liberating series the second we heard it and knew we needed a bold network partner to let us bring it to the screen as honestly as possible,” Feig said. “So, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be back in business with HBO Max, with whom we‘ve been having such a great time on Love Life. With our powerhouse cast and brilliant director, it’s Minx to the Max!”

Overall, Minx is Lionsgate’s fourth series at HBO Max, alongside Love Life and the upcoming Julia and the animated Santa Inc.

Minx is another great series we’re bringing to viewers from our incredible partners at HBO Max and Paul Feig and we couldn’t be more proud,” said Scott Herbst, EVP, Television & Head of Development for Lionsgate. “It’s a bold, funny and empowering show led by the amazing showrunner Ellen Rapoport that is sure to resonate with the HBO Max audience.”

Kristin Davis To Headline & EP Black Comedy ‘Deeds’ In Works At HBO Max
She is really taking on racy roles lately! I watched her in Bloody Illusions on Netflix and it was like watch a porn movie. It's not like she needs the money as it's touted she and the others in Sex and the City (except Kim Cattrall who was not invited, I guess it was a bad idea to get on Sarah's bad side 😱) But hey, it only cost Kim a mere 10 mill. So Kristin rakes in 10 mil for the Sex and the City reunion and is also producing Deeds too!

I watched Batman V Superman: Remastered Ultimate Cut on HBO Max...I absolutely loved, loved the 1.43:1 aspect ratio for the IMAX scenes (~25 minutes worth)...it's not the same as watching it on an IMAX theater screen but you really get a much better sense of scale...plus you get the full frame as the director intended...as soon as it switches it feels so much more epic

the movie was also filmed with 'real' IMAX 70mm cameras so the picture quality was stunning in those scenes...the big fight and the ending funeral scenes looked amazing...hopefully Christopher Nolan watches this and makes all his 4K releases going forward in the 1.43:1 aspect ratio instead of 1.77:1

the Extended Cut movie itself is also much better then the Theatrical Cut...much better pacing...Nolan's Dark Knight was great but I like the comic book feel of Snyder's movies better...Nolan made things more grounded in reality but Snyder's movies feel more like a DC comic come to life

Grade: A-

is this a clever pun or are you saying the CGI for the fur had issues? Or both?
Pickable Nits . . . I call it them "Fleas" not nits as in yet another "Dog with Fleas" and another same day opener as the theaters Floppola. Let's see if their next 9 slated same day openings will fare any better.

I don't think there is much good new stuff in the can for Warner Bros as the pandemic caused such a big pause in shootings.

It is a secret because they choose to hide it. Don't understand why this version information is not on the main landing page of the detail screen. I think most equate an EXTRAS section with trailers, bloopers and maybe deleted scenes clips. When the ALIEN movies were on the service, most of them had Extended and/or Director Cuts available that you would never have known from the main detail pages.

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Cinema showing Cinemark XD enhanced Dolby Atmos. Wearing my mask and I've been vaccinated.
Then I watched a second time on HBOMAX
in one 24 hour period !

#I'm team Godzilla

The film roars out at you from the first moment, and generally speaking it does not let up until the end. My only critique is at Kong is too dang big and it takes away from the human relationship that King Kong is known for just a wee bit . There's enough iconic monster Mayhem that this is easily overlooked however.

Godzilla's atomic breath was a high-light in the visual category .

One of the rays of light in the film was Kaylee Hottle as young Jia. It takes a lot to steal a scene when your scene partner is a giant ape, but Kaylee did it. Thankfully, like the previous films, this one does not live or die with the humans that are in it. You are going to love this film on as big a screen as is available to you, where you can see the fight explode around you while the score shakes your seat. The bass is out of control good. Whether you watch the film in the Cinema or on the your Television ; Godzilla vs.Kong is an epic Creature Feature. 8/10

‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Box Office Success Lifts Movie Theater Stocks

By Brent Lang

The box office success of “Godzilla vs. Kong” lifted exhibition industry stocks on Monday, reinvigorating the share prices of leading theater companies such as AMC, Imax and Cinemark.

The monster mano a mano grossed a mighty $48.5 million in its first five days in theaters, setting a record for the pandemic era and signaling that after a punishing year the movie business may be poised for a post-COVID comeback. AMC, the world’s largest exhibitor, saw shares climb 13.4%, while shares of Cinemark, another major chain, jumped 7.1% and shares of Cineworld, the owner of Regal, climbed 5.3%. Imax, which has become a major source of box office for tentpole movies like “Godzilla vs. Kong,” saw its shares increase 4.5% over the course of the day. Other theater-focused companies and chains such as the Marcus Corporation and National CineMedia, which packages advertising and pre-show programming to exhibitors, also got a stock lift, rising 4.8% and 4.4%, respectively. Some of these companies surrendered some of their gains in after-hours trading.

Joss Whedon Reportedly Threatened to Harm Gal Gadot’s Career During ‘Justice League’ Clash

Whedon allegedly told star Gadot that "he's the writer and she's going to shut up and say the lines."

Zack Sharf

Over the last year, “Justice League” star Ray Fisher has used social media to speak out against both the film’s reshoot director Joss Whedon and Warner Bros. executives, but he’s now given his first full sit-down interview on the matter with The Hollywood Reporter. Included in the lengthy Fisher profile are details expanding on the allegedly fraught relationship between Whedon and Fisher’s “Justice League” co-star Gal Gadot.

The “Wonder Woman” actress said in December 2020 that her experience with Whedon was “not the best one,” and now THR reports that, per “a knowledgable source,” Gadot “had multiple concerns with the revised version” of “Justice League.”

The THR report claims that sources shared that “the biggest clash … came when Whedon pushed Gadot to record lines she didn’t like, threatened to harm Gadot’s career and disparaged ‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins. While Fisher declines to discuss any of what transpired with Gadot, a witness on the production who later spoke to investigators says that after one clash, ‘Joss was bragging that he’s had it out with Gal. He told her he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie.'”

One source also told the outlet that Gadot had “issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in ‘Wonder Woman.’ She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next.”

Gadot and Jenkins allegedly “went to battle” against Whedon, resulting in a meeting with then-Warner Bros Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara. Gadot said in a statement to THR: “I had my issues with [Whedon] and Warner Bros. handled it in a timely manner.” IndieWire has reached out to representatives for Whedon, Gadot, and Warner Bros. for further comment.

The Fisher profile also includes new details about the Cyborg actor’s battles with Whedon and Warner Bros. executives. One point of contention between Fisher and executive Geoff Johns was over Cyborg’s physical appearance, with Johns allegedly telling Fisher to “play the character less like Frankenstein and more like the kindhearted Quasimodo.” The infamous Cyborg line “booyah” in the Whedon cut was also allegedly a source of some tension.

Per THR: “Fisher says that Johns had approached [original ‘Justice League’ director Zack] Snyder about including the line, but the director didn’t want any catchphrases. He managed the situation by putting the word on some signs in his version of the film, as an Easter egg. But Johns’ rep says the entire studio believed the booyah line was ‘a fun moment of synergy.'”

Fisher told THR that including the catchphrase in the live-action “Justice League” recalled “Black characters in pop culture with defining phrases: Gary Coleman’s ‘Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout, Willis?’; Jimmie Walker’s ‘Dy-no-mite!'” Fisher noted that no one else in “Justice League” had a catchphrase and that “it seemed weird to have the only Black character say that.”
