HC4900 - Broken LCD?

1975 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  TF Ghost
Hi,

I have had a Mitsubishi HC4900 for about two years, and last night, I turned it on to find a great yellow/green tint to the entire picture. It's as if the blues are missing. I know it's not a problem with my cables (component) because the "Welcome" screen that normally white is green. Further, I'm certain it's the blues because unplugging the blue cables makes no change, but red or green make the image disappear.

What makes the scenario even more lovely is the fact my two-year warrantly expired *literally* the day before.

I'm wondering:

- does anyone have experience with Mitsubishi warranty repairs and if they've been flexible in the past?

- if so/not, how much is this going to cost?

- what could have made this happen? Anyone else have this problem and figure it out?

Thanks!

Jon

I would give them a call - most manufacturers will work with you if you're only a few days over the warranty period.
Hello, I have the same problem with the yellow/green whites on my HC4900 projector. Did you find out what is the problem? I would love to know, or at least have an idea of where to start. Thanks

Do you see the discoloration on the Mitsubishi startup screen? If so, you have either a burned LCD panel and/or polarizer, a bad ribbon connector or a main board failure, all of which will require repair and may not be worth fixing (depending on the culprit) if you're out of warranty. If you don't see the discoloration on the startup screen you could have a bad cable or a problem with one of the devices sending the signal to the projector (cablebox, DVD player, receiver, etc).
