MW has a gain of 1.0 HCCV gain is 1.1 and CV gain is 1.3

Not sure as to what screen is right for you as I am not familiar with te PJ.

You could call DA-Lite or Jason here at AVS to get an idea.

You would only use the HCCV

1 - to defend against Ambient Light

2 - maybe improve Contrast by dropping Gray Level

Since U say you are in a Light Controlled Room

and the Yamaha already has 900x1 contrast ratio

U don't NEED the HCCV

I saw the DPX-1 in a showroom under Light Controlled conditions

projecting onto a 100in 16x9 Stewart Studio Tek (about 1.3)

Stunning picture that really POPS, contrast was Good

They had just received the Yamaha and it was only hooked-up sVideo

My setup HTPC->LP350->DaLite 92in PermWall (DaMat/HCCV)

First I was watching via STB DVD player sVideo->DaMat

Graduated to the HTPC w/ATI7500 DVI output

and Now replaced the DaMat with a HCCV

My Living Room HT leaks Light especially in the Summer Early Evenings

That's when the HCCV really comes into Play (rejects Ambient Light)

This improvement is Quite Noticeable to me

However, the DaMat looks the Best in a Dark Theater (Winter Screen 4me)

My suggestion for U....DaMat or Cinema Vision

leaning to-wards the CV because of Yamaha's 800ansi

Mouw,

Do you notice better blacks in light controlled conditions with the HCCV? I got mine (not up yet) to improve blacks, but not to help with ambient light ( I have complete controll). Same size screen as you with LT150. The samples from Da-Lite seemed to show a marked improvement in the blacks and so thats why I went with it. Your PJ has a lower CR than mine ( on paper at least) so I would suspect that the HCCV would be a big help with percieved blacks.

I am not really convinced that under perfect conditions (dark room)

that I get more shades of Gray with the HCCV/DaMat...

The CR remains the SAME, just lower and maybe affects UR perception

LP350 = 1300 lumens 500 CR

LT150 = 1000 lumens 700 CR

Probably differences are small....but I have never seen an LT150

What I do SEE is the Color Shift....as pointed out by senkoman

I needed to adjust my ATI7500 Overlay a little (picture controls)

and it's Not as Bright, even though the HCCV = 1.1 & DaMat = 1.1

I think my Reds & Yellows looked better on the DaMat

Since I have the PermWall frame and the Screens just button up

Soon I will be painting/moving the PJ/HTPC and so on

Get a Digital Camera and I can Button up Both Screens 50/50

then that will B the REAL story...(can't tell much with 6x6in samples)

Let US know how ur new HCCV compares to what ur watching now?

Mouw,

Thanks for the feedback. I will post a review of the HCCV when I get a chance to view it. Should be up in 2 weeks. I hope I didnt get the wrong screen. If it doesnt meet expectations then I guess Ill get to see if Da-Lite stands behind their product and lets me exchange it for a CV. Those samples they give are just too small to make an informed decision.

You mentioned the color shift. Seems to be two sides of that fence. Some here claim there isnt a shift and some claim there is. I have no technical or real world experiance in this field to draw on so I just take it all with a grain of salt. You mentioned that you in fact do notice a shift and that you adjusted your color settings to account for it. Question is did this correct the issue or is there still a problem?

My review will be an A/B of the HCCV vs my $40 DIY screen using blackout cloth (I think it is).
