The bad: No 1080p output; HD DVD could lose the format war; no multichannel analog outputs.

I just took this from cnet. I didnt know the a2 didnt support 1080P. Does the PQ look that good at 1080i on a good 1080p tv that you dont notice?

1080i carries all the full resolution of a 1080p stream so provided you have a half decent TV it will look the same.

Yes.
Mine looks outstanding. Planet Earth on this player is awesome.
I've seen no discernable difference at 1080i vs 1080p on my 42" And 50" HDTV's. Its just one of those marketing ploys to make you feel you need it to be "Full HD". I'm sure on a 60" or larger screen you may tell the difference but not on my sets at home. Keep in mind all HDTV Network broadcasts are either 1080i or 720p and they look increadible. You be the judge for yourself and see. You may be surprised to find like many the difference between 1080p and 1080i on most average size HDTV's isn't all that significant...then figure in the additional cost for that possible 1080p difference. In the end you decide for yourself what looks better and whether the additional cost is worth it to you...don't let the marketting folks or others decide for you how to spend your money. We already have Sony attempting to cram blue-ray down our throats. For me the A2 1080i player is the best HD investment I've made since purchasing my HDTV.

I thought the new software upgrade coming out for the A2 was going to make it a

1080P. The 2.5 I already did the 1.5 and the 2.0 and both worked with no problems at all. I was told that Toshiba was coming out with a 2.5 cd software upgrade that was going to make the A2 a 1080P didn't anyone else here that.

Do you have a 1080p TV? If you don't then the A2 is good enough. If you do then your set will do the 1080p for you.

Yep. I have an A2 and a Blu-Ray 1080p. No difference between the two on my 1080p set. I've even A/B'd the same transfers from each. No difference.
I run both my 1080p capable Blu-ray players at 1080i/60 output by choice to both my 1080p displays.

I use an A1 and rate it's 1080i output beter than BD's 1080p output in general.

1080i and 1080p are both 1920x1080 pixels per frame. Same image resolution for both signal formats. Especially with film-based content, there is no visible difference in picture detail whatsoever (assuming your TV can de-interlace 1080i signals reasonably well).
