HD-A20 Has 3 Free HD DVDs in the box!!! (Possible 12 Free At Best Buy)

Noted today while in Best Buy that the HD-A20 units on the shelf had a sticker indicating 3 free HD DVD movies were included in the box with the player. One was The Perfect Storm, can't recall what the two other discs were.

Combine this with the 4 free movies instantly, and the 5 by mail, and you get 12 to start with. A very healthy beginning to a collection.

Have you actually tried this?

Best Buy is known for notoriously denying anything and everything... This is an awesome deal if this is true...

I actually want an XA2 but if this confirms, might have to give a second look at A20...
It sounds too good to be true but I think it is. I read here a week ago somewhere in these forums that some of the A20s have the 3 free discs in the box in the US. there sould be a red sticker on the box stating it. The movies were Perfect storm, and I think Black Rain , and Fast and Furio

Not a bad title selection though. There is one title from each studio supporting HD DVD. Universal - Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Warner - The Perfect Storm, Paramount - Black Rain Special Edition.

Be sure to look for a sticker, red in color, approx. 6" X 6" with the offer in glossy text and the 3 free HD DVDs pictured in the ad.

If your HD A20 box has this sticker, then the free HD DVDs are inside the actual box! Just like being a kid again and digging to the bottom of the cereal box for that awesome plastic toy surprise thingy!

TWELVE would be a great deal! However, the original deal of 9 (5 from Toshiba and 4 from BB) is not as good as Amazon:

Amazon has the A20 for $385 with free shipping and no tax.

Best Buy has the A20 for $500 + tax = ~$535.

So you save about $150 if you buy it at Amazon. You could use that $150 to buy more movies than the four you'd get for free from Best Buy and you'd have a better selection to boot.

But if there are three in the box at BB and not at Amazon, then I'd say it's (marginally) a better deal....

Best Buy here was selling the A20 for $449 for awhile. I'm not sure abouts other stores
Future Shop canada has it for $499.99 this week. That's about $450 in real dollars, not this weird canadian peso amount...
With a very little price difference, I'd MUCH rather purchase something in an actual store than online. If there's a problem, I take it back and get a new one. Simple as that. No sending away and waiting.
thanks for the heads up. I was going to get this deal this weekend with the 12% reward zone coupon, until I noticed that he didn't work on blue ray and HD-DVD. But I'd be in for sure if the boxes has the stickers on them, indicating they had the 3 free.

I rarely even look at those 12% coupons now cuz just about everything that I want is excluded from the coupon.

Sometimes they'll waive the fine print and let you use it on whatever. As always, YMMV.

Yeah, I thought about going up there yesterday to give it a shot, but we were too busy with Mother's Day stuff. Didn't want to push it to try and go buy a $500 DVD player.

Still not worth it, who really wants to watch these old movies anyway?, honestly how many times can you watch a movie over and over?, once is enough for 99% of all movies for me.

The key point in your statement is "ME" (as in, you)... Others have a different view on this...
Haven't seen any of those 3 titles. I would be tempted to upgrade my A1 if the 4 instant and 5 by mail was offered in canada.
those 3 included free movies are for Canadan players

They can promise all the hd dvd's they want, but will they deliver.

Many of us are still waiting on Toshiba's first 3 free offer!!!!!!!!!
I bought my HD A2 at Future Shop in Canada on April 20th. Called Toshiba when I found out about the March mail in deal for free HD DVD's and they refused me (which I sort of understand). Now, 10 days after I buy my HD DVD, they come out with this promotion! They will not answer any emails about my request for the free DVD's.

It seems that to have promotions so often, but deny people access to the promotion who happen to purchase on the week that the promotion isn't running is counterproductive. They want to push HD over BD, but aren't doing much in customer service, IMO.
Why don't you do a return and re-buy? That is....if the new boxes have those 3 free HDDVDs in them.
Unfortunately, Future Shop doesn't have the new boxes with the movies in them. They are still selling the old boxes with the coupon that you mail in for the free DVD's. Unfortunately, the coupon expired in March!!
