HD Audio analog out of mac?

1548 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  speters
I was wondering if anyone new if there is anyway to get hd audio out of a mac via analog cables? I have a lot of blu ray movies that I have ripped with with the hd audio, and I have been using xmbc to play them back on my 8 Core Mac Pro. I have the Radeon 5770 video card but unfortunately my ht processor, the Theta Casablanca III, does not have hdmi. So I have just been using the spdif to play the DD or DTS track. Unfortunately my income now a 5th of what it use to be so I will not be upgrading my Casablanca to hdmi anytime soon. I was able to get a Theta Six Shooter, 6 channel analog preamp, really cheap, so now I am trying to figure out how to get 6 channel analog out of my computer so that I can play the HD audio from my bluray rips.

I know that I would need to get some sort of pci card or usb dac with analog outs, then I would need to either use some software, looks like xmbc will be able to do that within the next six months, or hardware to do this. So any suggestions? What about the Dune HD MX?

Thanks,

Steve

If you buy an Oppo 93 you can get 7.1 analog out without futzing with anything else. You will need to buy quality DACs for your Mac and that will be in a noisy environment inside your mac. Better to just put your movies in an external USB HDD and connect it to the Oppo!
I thought that maybe the oppo bdp-95 would be the way to go because it has some pretty good dacs with analog outs and an esata port. It will play mkv files but just found out that, at the moment, it can not play back the hd audio from .mkv files. Any other thoughts?

Are you sure about that? Did you visit the Oppo 95 and 93 threads? They are constantly upgrading firmware!
Ya, I first read that in a post then I called Oppo and they said that currently it will not play back any hd audio from .mkv files.
