Hey everyone!

Haven't been on the site in a while!

Anyway, I am still TAKEN BACK with my Pany 6UY EDTV! Simply amazing. I still can't believe I have that thing hanging up on my wall!

I had a couple of questions for all of you out there.

1) How does the new 7UY compare to the 6UY?

Second, this is the setup I have I have at home. I have DVD player connected straight to plasma via component. I have a main audio receiver and then a VCR and Tivo/DirecTV box connected as well. I was starting to think about the possibility of getting an HD box.

2) How would this work with my Tivo/DirecTV box? Is this possible?

3) Anyone have Tivo/DirecTV box and then separate HD box?

4) How would I connect it?

5) What's a decent box go for $$$?

Thanks for the input!

Why don't you get a HD TIVO ?

Going with the HD Box along with the current SD TIVO will require at least 2 connections from your dish (if you are using single tuning on your current SD TIVO else it would be 3 connections from your dish).

If you go this route, basically connect the HD BOX to the VGA port (which is also component with the correct cables) in the Panny.

The cheapest I have seen for the HD Tivo is $899. Some people have had some success with getting Directv to give them a credit of a few hundred dollars if you call up the retention department and tell them that your cable company is after your business. I believe that Circuit City also have had sales where they gave out a $200 store credit with the purchase of a HD Tivo

How do you like the picture quality of the SD programs on the 6UY?

Honestly, I think the SD feed is GREAT on the 6UY! Some channels/programming are better than others, but overall it is AMAZING. I sometimes can't even imagine how much better HD feed would be on it. But of course, we always want the next best thing don't we?

So, any of you have a separate HD box? Aside from the TIVO one?

1) How does the new 7UY compare to the 6UY?

ANSWER: Don't know, I have the 6UY.

ANSWER: Not sure of your questions, sounds like it's already connected properly. If your VCR is composite, you can run both D*Tivo and VCR to the receiver, assuming it switches video too.

3) Anyone have Tivo/DirecTV box and then separate HD box?

ANSWER: Yes, I had this before I got my HD Tivo.

4) How would I connect it?

ANSWER: (I'm only including video, audio is thru my receiver)

D*Tivo -> receiver -> plasma via composite (picture is better for me vs svid)

HD D* (Samsung TS360) -> direct to plasma via DVI

5) What's a decent box go for $$$?

ANSWER: You can find some HD boxes on ebay from users (like me) that sold them when our HD Tivos arrived. Anywhere from $100 to $300, depending on the box.

My recommendation is to save for the HD Tivo box. If you are Tivo fanatic like me, you will be in HEAVEN being able to Tivo HD shows like Lost, Enterprise, HD Sports (like the Olympics and World Series, go SOX!), many of the CBS shows, etc. As mentioned, you may be able to get a D* discount if you "shmooze" the retention dept and are a good customer w/ good history. I've heard it's down to $899 at places like BB.

If you want to connect the Tivo (S-Video or Composite) and the VCR (Composite) then you need to buy a blade so you can have 2 Composite/S-Video inputs). You could also get a composite switch box at rat shack for under $20 or you can switch everything from your home theatre system and use a high end remote to manage the situation. If you go with HD Tivo then you can use the computer connector as your second component in. I think with the special promotions you can get an HD Tivo for about $650 after the incentives from DTV's rentention hotline as noted above. Wait a year and they will probably be under $300.

Lastly you can trade her in for the consumer model that has the HD tuner built in as well as many connections including HDMI, 2 component in, a few S-Video and composites.
