HD DVD insider event for Portland, Or

2744 Views 42 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  dad1153
So looks like I have a time slot on Tuesday the 29th to come down to Portland (really Beaverton) Oregon. Need to know soon if there is enough interets for us to drive down there and hold our typical HD DVD insider meeting (answer questions, watch cool content, etc.). So please let me know if you are interested and I will then post the logistics info.

FYI, we may have a full house this time, with both Ben and Kevin there in addition to myself. So we won't leave a question unanswered!

Amir,

I'd go, but I'm in New York City. Let us know next time your in that area. Thanks.
The Mrs. and I would love to go, but it all depends on the time. When do you plan on doing it and for how long.

Thanks.
We usually start around 6:00p to 7:00pm so that folks have the time to get off work and fight the traffic to get there
. We provide snacks and such so if you don't have time for dinner, you won't starve...

As to length, it is kind of open ended usually but the formal part takes about 2 hours. So we usually are "done" by 9:30 or so....
I'm interested. I'm brand new to HD DVD as of Sunday, so this could be very interesting. Any ideas of where this might be yet? I'm already in Beaverton, so this sounds ideal to me.

Amir ,

I would love to come , any ideas on the location in Beaverton ?

I probably would not be there until closer to 7pm since I am coming from Vancouver (over the bridge) . HD DVD owner since launch day
.

*** I posted about the Insiders meet in the Portland/Vancouver AVS local meets thread here : http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&goto=lastpost

You can certainly invite others. The only things we ask are:

1. An AVS member come with them. After all, we are using this forum to get people to come so we want the benefit to accrue to AVS
.

2. That we don't get BD fans who want to just argue
. We like the meeting to be peaceful.

Note that there is no requirement for people to own HD DVD either. They just need to be interested in HD....

I work in Wilsonville, OR and might be interested as I could swing up that direction after work quite easily.

Is this just like a press conference, only we ask the questions? What makes it an event worth attending?

Sorry if I'm prying, but gas is expensive, so I'm trying to determine if its worth the trip

I am in. I live in the Bton. If we have room I will bring a friend or 2.

It is the opposite of a press conference
. We absolutely do not want to treat this as a marketing event. It is simply my way of chatting with you directly as opposed to sequences of posts and replies. It is as informal and interactive as you can get. Think about it as a better version of what we do here on AVS.

What you can expect to walk away with are:

a) A better technical knowledge of the technologies (both BD and HD DVD).

b) The stories behind the many decisions that you live with. Did you ever wonder why there are three video codecs in these formats? You will know the answer at the end of the event.

c) The people and their stories that led to some of the key events that got us here.

We then show some of the best HD DVD vidoes you have ever seen anywhere (and some that you can only see there!
). And the technology powering them.

I think this is our 15th event. We have been all around the world and talked to hundreds of people. The satisfaction rating is incredibly high or we would not be doing it
. You can search for the threads for other cities. Here is a quick bit on our last visit to Toronto: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...post10419290

I work downtown and live in Tualatin so I think I'd come directly from work. How do I sign up?

I will post the registration link tomorrow.
I'm probably on the young end of the crowd here (24) and relatively new to AVS, but I'd love to come if possible. Thanks in advance!

Don't feel too young. I'm 21 and also new to AVS.
