Hd Dvr Ota

I can receive perfect HD programing via the Over The Air (OTA) ATSC signal in the Dallas area. However, I miss my DVR capabilities. Is their a HD DVR that supports ATSC? Sony has discontinued theirs.

You can still find the Sony at many retailers/online stores and on ebay. LG also makes an ATSC enabled (LG LST 3410a) HD DVR but it is also discontinued, however it remains available via similar means as the 2 Sony models (DHG 500/250).

Until the TiVo Series 3 comes out, those are your only mainstream options.
The Sony should be the easier of the two to find.

From my frustration with Dish, and Direct TV's Local channels and HDDVR. Would it just be more prudent to go with an ATSC (3410a or Sony) to get our locals for a decent HDDVR option? Cable is not an option for us we are in a boycot of a certain monopoly in our area.

From what I understand the TiVo series 3 will not be an available option with Direct TV and the delay with the so called new Direct TV HDdvr seems to be elusive at this point in time.

This is really a bad time for the consumer.

Thanks in advance,

Brad Martin

Vote with your checkbook/debitcard, dont buy it till they make it right. They have to pay thier bills to, and report to the stockholders.

IF your into it you can get the right parts and you can make your computer a hd dvr. like the divco fusion 5 usb hdtv peice.
Yeah, at this point your only choices for an OTA HD DVR are the Sony and LG models, or a custom built computer system.
I bought a sony DHG HDD250 at clearance at best buy about a month ago. i can't complain. the picture is great and i hooked it up to my vcr and put it through the entire house and control it from anywhere using ir blasters.

the best part no monthly subscription fees. all the programing data is free.

i cut dish and haven't looked back.

Wow. I'd love to know how you did that? I have a HDD500. I love it. But now I cannot stand watching "regular" TV.

I do not think he added for the Cablecard expense, but it is minimal.

Unless he's only OTA.
when a Direct TV CSR called today I mentioned we do OTA locals on our own not with the HDR10. She asked why?

I said cause its free thats why.

Too bad she didn't visit you in person - you could've given her a good smack, too.
i use free OTA. no cable. cable doesn't have much out there for me. most shows i like come out on dvd soon enough and i can just rent them from netflix.

That type of behavior may be acceptable in your world but it is not in mine.

If she would have visited in person, she would have been offered coffee or tea treated with respect and we would have discussed the situation like adults in a professional manner. Then shook hands after the conversation and went our separate ways in peace. No matter what the disagreement was about

I doubt my wife would stay with anyone who smacked a female, our marriage is 25 years strong going on 26. I resent your comment it was way out of line.
Hi

I use the ATI HDTV Wonder for OTA HD on occaision but I recently pickedup a JVC DVHS deck which has tuners.

Apparantly it will accept all 18 ATSC formats so does that mean that if I plug my OTA antenna into this box it will decode (and I guess record ) a HD stream without any other box in between.

I'm not even sure how I would pass the HD stream from my ATI HD tuner because I think the fireware ports on the JVC only work with cameras.

I remember reading a couple of years ago that the only way to record HD (at that time) was OTA to a DVHS rec/pl.

My plan was to use the JVC30000 for other things, so if it will not decode OTA HD, I won't bother adding it to my rack until I have filmed something.

Thanks,

Peter m.

The JVC 30k does not have ATSC tuners, only NTSC. It can only record HDTV if it comes in on the firewire. However, if it is already on the tape, then it can play (decode) it through the component outputs, which is more than a Mitsubishi deck can do. However, you can dump the recordings you have on your HTPC to the JVC via Firewire. CapDVHS and DVHSTool software can do this. If you have not recorded the whole ATSC stream, just a sub-channel, or you null-stripped it, then you will probably have problems dumping to D-VHS. TStoATSC is useful for fixing up the stream for the D-VHS deck. Read up on these software tools in this forum and the HTPC forum. MyHD cards can also use their own tuner and software to record direct to the JVC D-VHS.
