HD-DVR with CableCard, and ieee 1394?

559 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  twitchee3
I currently use Comcast's DCT-3412 cable box for recording, and archiving TV. I'm wondering if there is a DVR I can purchase that would have cablecard support, and firewire output without 5C encryption?

Or, could I get an older model box from Comcast that doesn't have 5C built in?

Nope, doesn't exist.
5c exists on the data stream for programming, ANY box with firewire will also transmit the 5c flags, there is no way around 5c, that's the point of it.
There are boxes with firewire that don't support 5C. There's no way around 5C only if the box you're using supports it.

Name one.
If the programming is 5C encoded then any box without 5C capability will not be able to decode the 5C encription. THAT is the purpose of 5C encoding.
