I bought the Philips 40" LCD model # 40PFL3705D. When I watch an HD show or BD the picture looks weird, the foreground isn't blended in w/ the background, it looks like obvious green screen, its the "soap opera" effect. I can see the different layers and its getting annoying.

I've googled this and seems like a lot of people have experienced this, but there isnt any fix. I turned off 120hz and it didnt do anything. I played with the different viewing modes ie: sports, games, movie, etc and not much difference. Online specs says this HDTV has "Pixel Plus", but there isn't an option for it. Also "picture settings" menu is limited, so there isnt much I can adjust.

Anyone have experince w/ this? Pls help.

You didn't turn off the 120hz because you can't.

You turned off the motion processing. However, with the motion processing off, there is no way the TV is displaying the "soap opera effect" so it must be another problem that is causing what you see. Hopefully somebody will have a solution. Good luck.

The motion processing is 120hz...

There is no tv out that is native 120hz, 240hz etc they are all native 60hz,

50hz for me though

All 120hz sets do is double the frame count and insert false frames to smooth

motion. Broadcast material is broadcast at 60hz or blu ray 24hz so there would

be no point in a 120hz tv any way. Its like having a full hd telly just for watching

sd 576i content.... wasted pixels.

As for the problem your suffering what backlight setting are you using try

turning that down as that is like shinning a light it will just make faults more

noticeable. Also what sharpness setting as this can make things pop if set to

high which can have a negative effect.

You say hd or bd so it doesn't happen with sd content?

Yes, only on HD and BD, not SD.

Me?

No not you

If not on SD maybe it is something to do with the sharpness

making the picture pop to much.

BoilerJim get what you are saying now

Still doesn't quite make sense to me but to much going on in my head right

now anyway
