HD Player Sales Rankings at Amazon Easily Beat BD

Since I haven't seen anybody else mentioning this, I'll have to start the fun.

I won't quote the actual numbers, in part because they are constantly changing, but anyone who supports HD DVD will smile when they compare the sales rankings at Amazon for stand alone HD DVD and BD Players.

While the best selling HD Players are around 175-225 (or better) in the Electronics rankings, you'll find the best selling BD Players closer to the 4000 mark.

And for the next few weeks, with the $100 rebate program, the HD DVD numbers are just going to rise even higher, while the BD numbers fall further behind.

What does that tell us?

Yes, I know the completely ignored RCA HD DVD player (which was actually an A1 internally) is the biggest sales loser of all (down around 45000!); but everybody wanted actual Toshiba players. Sorry RCA.

And I'm not comparing the PS3 sales rankings, because they are in the Video Game category (around 20 when I last looked); and I'll leave those numbers for gamers to argue about.

Please post the rankings for the HD DVD players that really impress you over the next few days.

I have an HD TV.

I have an HD Antenna.

I have an HD DirecTV Recorder.

I have an HD Projector.

I have an HD DVD Player.

I buy HD DVDs

There seems to be a very nice pattern there doesn't there?

And that's the way I like it.

I guess you could say I'm an HD supporter.

Long Live HD DVD!

And if there are any titles not currently being released in the HD DVD format I'm waiting for before I buy them, my upscaled DVD copies look great too in the meantime. Maybe certain studios are enjoying the fact that I'm buying their DVDs now, and paying again later to buy their HD DVDs (which they will eventually have to release).

Before the HD-A20 was released the A2, XA2, and XA1 were all over the #1 Blu-Ray player

After the HD-A20 was released the A2, A20, and XA2 are all consistently over the #1 Blu-Ray player. The first gens which are no longer produced dropped in the sales rank, but that is to be expected.

Taking a look at the quanitity instock @ thedvdwars indicates that the HD DVD players are owning the BR players. Even the good 'ole 360 HD DVD player is selling good enough to warrant a restock order of 1000.
while i am an avid hd-dvd supporter - you cannot compare these numbers without factoring in the PS3. it is the defacto player of choice at the moment in the blu-ray forums, and is recommended as a standalone player over the stand alones. many predicted that the impact of the ps3 would be minimal, as gamers would be buying it to play games - but the opposite seems to be true. blu-ray videophiles are buying it often for the sole purpose of playing movies, not games. so again, a comparison is not meaningful unless you factor in all players of both formats.
you know, I was going to do exactly that with the PS3...use it to play movies and the occasional sports game...but when I found out it had bluetooth and couldn't be integrated into my Harmony remote, it was quickly removed from my list...a big mistake with the PS3 if you ask me.

As for an "HD" antenna...there is no such thing...an antenna is an antenna...I've even seen people using barbed wire fences as an antenna to pick up digital channels over the air.

I don't agree that the opposite is true, but the effect is more than minimal. I believe the BDA expected the PS3 to have a far greater impact. OTOH, those that predicted that it wouldn't have a significant effect were also wrong. It has had enough of an effect to put Blu-ray in the lead, but not enough of an effect to put away HD DVD.
I agree that you have to take the PS3 into account, since it's pretty much the best player and on the low end of the price range for BR. Were it not for the bluetooth remote thing I probably would have bought one already.

Speaking of rankings . . . the A2 is currently at #1 among DVD players! It is the bestselling DVD player on Amazon.
(It's at rank #29 for all electronics.)

You might want to check out the "Philips PHDTV1 Digital HDTV-UHF Indoor Antenna "; which is described as, "...specially designed to receive HD broadcast signals..."

It's sold by Amazon at:
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-PHDTV1.../dp/B0007XDI54

And it certainly is an HD antenna (that works very well) for me.

I even use it plugged into my DirecTV HD-DVR so it can record my OTA programs in HD; just as well as the DirecTV HD shows too.

its just a bunch of marketing hype....any antenna can receive digital (and HD) channels. Go find an antenna from the 1960's, it will work just as well. They may have changed a few specs and gave it a "space age" look, but it is really no different from a 40 year old antenna.

Just a way to sell more products to uneducated consumers....well I guess if you never had an antenna you don't have a choice, but I bet that a lot of people had antennas in their attics for years and were still suckered into buying a new antenna because they thought it was "HD"
All the arguing is pointless until one side can start to take on DVD.. Until you start seeing numbers like 5 million 10 million 15 million player sales, it's all still just a niche for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray...

Both sides need more software selection, cheaper disc prices, and sub $200 (base price) players.

We had a 60 foot tower with an antenna rotor! LOL

We could pick up the extra 4 channels that my friends couldn't.
