HD possible with only single run of coax

585 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  peter0302
I have an older home that has only a single rg6 run from the dish to the entertainment room. I have a newer DirecTV dish in place and would like to move to HD. Can I do it?

Thanks

Unless your satellite recevier is a dual tuner, one line of rg6 is enough. An external antenna signal can be diplexed on that line to get you OTA for HD locals.
How do you "diplex" the signal. Can you just use a splitter?
One example and a wiring diagram can be found at http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_disp...s&PROD=SPDX100
You use two diplexers (not a regular splitter) one by the antenna and one inside by the receiver. Radio Shack has an RCA diplexer for about $24 each, but other stores like Frys carry them for half-that.

No OTA available in my area. I basically want both regular DTV progamming and the HD package. Still possible with the single run?

DTV means digital television around here. All channels including HD are available on a single HD receiver with a 3LNB dish and a single connection cable.
What HD package are you referring to? Which channels specifically?
The HD package for 10.99 per mos.
If you're only ever going to be using one TV, then it's fine. If you ever want to have more than one receiver, you'll be in for quite an expensive headache.
