Now that the format has changed in my market for 100.3, I am now listening on 100.3-2 rather than -1. The only reason I bring this up is because my JVC in my Chevrolet pickup saves the main frequency, but not the sub-channel. Thus, when I start the vehicle, I have to wait several seconds and then manually select -2. Not a huge deal, but I definitely prefer the other method that allows the sub-channel to be saved. My Radiosophy HD100, for example, will display "waiting for sub-channel", or something to that effect, when powering on.

As you noticed, some HD tuners will save subchannels directly, but at least the original JVC (KD-HDR1) will not. My Onkyo receiver stores HD2 channels and will play the analog main channel until the HD2 syncs, then switch to it.
