Can anyone tell me if the built in HD Radio tuners in the few brands of A/V recievers are essentially the same in terms of specs?

Or is it like comparing analog tuners with s/n ratio, blah blah blah.

Can anyone chip in with what receiver they have and how the tuner and HD tuner work for them?

Thanks

There is a whole section in these forum dedicated to HD radio; I would check there. That's where I got the info to purchase the Sony Tuner (a great unit I might add).

You could always go that route, separate tuner, as it probably tests better than any built in tuner.

I live about 55 miles West of Boston up on a hill, so I figure I'd be able to take full advantage of HD radio. I just sold off a very high end system and separate tuner, so I'm looking for something that will suffice.

I"m also interested in picking up a few talk radio stations from New York as well. I would rather get free that have to pay. It sounds like your very please with the results.

Thanks for the info. You are the second to endorse the Sony tuner.

"HD Radio" is a down-grade from FM. Don't buy into the hype. If it happens to come with whatever receiver you buy, certainly go ahead and try it out. Compare HD to FM for yourself, but don't expect HD to be an improvement.

Do you guys mean HD Radio will not succeed, or that it's still in its infancy technology wise?

Does this point to Internet radio as being superior?

Based on where I live, I thought I might be able to take advantage of it.

Guess it now goes back to who provides the best built in tuner am/fm to start. I know that's a pipe dream.

Wow, that is completely not my experience. FM radio in my house is OK, but when I compare it to HD, the signal is much clearer. Add to that the simulcast stations and the fact that my Sony tuner is far superior to my built in tuner for standard FM - the Sony is a winner. And it's cheap.

That doesn't mean it doesn't have it's quirks, it does. Main gripes being that I lose power quite often here in NC and there is no autofill or power off station memory retention.

I haven't tried it yet, but from what I've read internet radio can sound better than FM, so that would be a "yes".

Not surprising that it would sound better than a poorly received FM signal.
