With this line of questioning you will get owners of either unit claiming superiority due to purchase justification . I own neither unit but have seen what both can do and while the HD65 is very bright and colorful it cannot match the image quality of the 7210 plain and simple . If you require absolute brightness while maintaining a great image then the 7210 is the better choice , tune an HD65 to 6500K/D65 and see just how bright it is
. This is not to say that the HD65 is not a decent PJ , it is , but if you want the over-all better image then the 7210 is the right choice IMO .
The HD65 is very bright in certain modes but calibrating it properly will not leave you with those same lumen numbers , on the other hand the 7210 actually retains almost all of its marketed spec. when properly calibrated and should come 6500K/D65 out of the box .
a big advantage of 7210 is the faroudja processor. That do a great upscaling job.
if you will use it with progressive sources, the Optoma HD65 will give you impressive images, but, if you will use with interlaced sources, the Faroudja processor of the 7210, will increase the definition a lot better than HD65 does.
