I've been a satisfied owner of the Optoma HD70 for six years now and recently changed the bulb.

A few weeks later the fans would start working when I turn on my projector put the lamp refuses to turn on and after a few seconds the projector shuts down automatically and the lamp error LED starts blinking.

When I take out the lamp and put it back in the projector starts working again. But a few weeks or days later the problem would occur again. I doubt there's a problem with the lamp itself, as it always works again if I took it out the projector.

Does anyone has an idea of what the cause may be for the lamp not lighting up?

I've had a similar problem with my panasonic. Someone suggested it might be the ballast. I unseat and reseat the bulb and it turns on. Happens about every 4-5 times I turn it on. I just live with it till I'm ready to upgrade.

I don't plan to upgrade for a few years. Is it expensive to change such a ballast?

Well, I guess just taking the lamp out and cleaning the input connector for the lamp. I plan to call my HT dealer tomorrow.

I think everything's expensive with electronic repairs.I'm not sure what a ballast would cost or how difficult it is to put in.I replaced the fan thinking that might be the problem.I've had friends send projectors back for repair and It takes forever to get them back. if I can't fix it myself I replace it. On recent big ticket purchases I bought the extended warranties so it becomes the dealers problem, not mine.Good luck.
