HDMI 480i DVD into HDMI 480i Projector

As has been pointed ot in a separate thread, there are only a handful of DVD players which output 480i over HDMI. (DVI-D out players can not): Arcam FMJ DV79; Pioneer Elite DV-59AVI; Sony 975; Toshiba SD-V592/6; two Teac Esoterics.

Discussions of the use of these players' 480i HDMI out has generally centered around the use of the Lumagen scaler/processors going into the a proj. via DVI-D at its native resolution of 720p/1080i, and whether iScan will make its units accept 480i which they currently do not.

I looked at Proj. Cent. to see which HDMI in projs. accepted 480i so that you could directly hook up the 480i HDMI out from the DVD player into the HDMI input on the proj, using the proj's deinterlacer and scaler instead of the player's.

Assuming the deinterlacer/scaler in the proj were superior to the player's, the "loss" would be 1 to 1 pixel mapping, which only really occurs w/DLP projs.

If Proj. Cent. is correct, there are as few projs whch accept 480i over HDMI as ther are players which output 480i HDMI. Of 21 projs listed w/HDMI in, only the SIM2 Domino 18H and EVSX1 accept 480i via HDMI. The InFocus 7205 w/the latest firmware (not available on the Toshiba MT800), 7210 and 777 accept 480i digital in through the MD inputs.

Among those NOT accepting 480i HDMI in are the Marantz 12S4, and SIM2 HT300E/Link and SIM2 HT500E/Link.

The question raised by this, among others, is if you used one of the 480i HDMI out players with a proj which accepted 480i digital in and which had a good scaler/deinterlacer like the FL2310 used in the InFocus projs, would this argually come close to using the Lumagen with the same 480i HDMI out DVD player, and the Lumagen outputting the projetors native rate over DVI-D?
