I'm thinking about purchasing a 5450 ATI card. It would go in my HTPC with Vista Ultimate/VMC, Gigabyte MOBO that has Analog and Optical out audio.

The question: any idea if I could ouput from the MOBO audio if I use this card, either via analog or optical while sending via HDMI? I want it to be able to play to Zone 2 on my Onkyo, and Zone 2 only accepts analog. My main thought is to put same thing to both, although, having music at one while htpc playing a movie through HDMI might be of interest.

Currently I am sending audio via the optical from MOBo, and I am sending that through a converter that will send to analog while also sending to the optical. I am aware that it may depend on the OS, because when my HTPC was XP, I could send out analog and digital simultaneously, but on Vista Ultimate, I have to use the converter.

I suppose another option to inquire about: Any chance there is a HDCP card that would ouput to analog while sending HDMI?

With a HDCP card, I'm not sure if I would be totally out of luck to get the audio to analog.

I have found some posts here about this, but the ones I found did not have a definitive answer. All were along the lines of "I think you can do this...". I will keep searching though.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I have wondered this as well... as I have an Onkyo too that it has to be component in to go component out for Zone 2...

It would appear that it doesn't work. I have an ATI HD5870 video card connected HDMI to a receiver, then to TV. I also have an Auzentech X-Fi Prelude sound card with Logitech speakers. To get HDMI audio I have to set the ATI HDMI Ouyput to be the default device, which disables output from the sound card. If I set Speakers to default device there is no HDMI audio.

FWIW I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

Still seeking a solution and will post back if I find 1. I would like to use my sound card for gaming, etc. and want to stream music to receiver.

I wonder if it could be achieved with some sort of switching congomeration. HDMI to a swtich which can output to multiple or something.

I too will post back if I figure something out. I am probablyu going to get a card.

I am trying to solve this problem with my setup too. I have the 5450 card and have not found anyway to send analog and hdmi. I am thinking i might try this switch, monoprice item 5557, when it comes in stock since it outputs all audio simultaneously. I dont really need it as a switcher but just need the audio for zone 2 without having to go into the control panel and change the output all the time. Sorry its my first post so it would not let me post a link.

It might be possible in J. River media center. You can specify zones and playback to them with different audio devices... or event different channels of the same sound card e.g. a 7.1 card can yield 4 stereo zones.

I'm using J. River media jukebox (the free one) and it doesn't appear to have that capability. That would be a perfect solution if it works. I'll try it tonight and report back.

I am getting a switch, either the Gefen or a Key Digital switch... you inevitably have to get a nice switch or run into HDCP and handshake issues... I got the monoprice switch and got a pink screen with no audio...

I have J River Media Center, and while I play music through it, I do not play my movies through it. I can't test, as I don't have the card yet. I need to order it first

But I would also like the audio from movies to be able to play in Zone 2, and so JRM wouldn't help me there.

Thanks! Media Jukebox lets you specfy the output. This is perfect for me. I can keep my normal PC going through the sound card and only send the music output over HDMI.

Here's what the menu looks like:

Well my solution is a little divergent to this topic... My Onkyo PR-SC5507 has dual HDMI out (basically splits it internal). I have a 15' cable that goes up from the basement to a HDMI wallplate and into the first Samsung LCD... no problems there... Out the Sub HDMi output I have a HDMI over ~75' Cat5e up to the bedroom to a second Samsung LCD (same capabilites for both TV's, so I nulled out any potential EDID issues regarding capability differences) I wasn't able to recieve a signal upstairs however... I learned two important things after messing around with different configs... the order you turn on the electronics matters... with the tv on after the reciever I would get a "Mode not supported" display on the Sammy ... If I turned the TV on first I could get a 95% clear pictures, a little bit of artifacting, but no audio...

I called Audio Authority up and discussed what i was seeing, I have used this company's products before for Component over Cat5e distribution and they are phenomenal with great customer support. So I purchsed this, Audio Authoirty 1391A , I will report back to see if this will be the solution to my HDMI issues.

But for others , this company makes great switches and splitters... they are a little pricey but they are also bulletproof, HDMI is pretty finecky, and eventhough I love Monoprice, the $34 splitter they sell failed to work...

I'm a little confused. I have one Realtek processing chip on my Zotac board that I need the same audio signal output across the HDMI and the 3.5mm analog (since Onkyo Zone 2 is retarded...). JRMC can send the exact same signal to both outputs simultaneously?
