HDMI Cable Question and a Net Jacket one?

I too was wondering about net jackets.


Is there any upside to them besides looks and marginal additional physical protection to damage?


I tend to avoid them because they increase the thickness of the cable. 24 AWG cables are thick enough already. I don't need something that is going to add to the thickness if they aren't going to give me any real benefit.

Monoprice has HDMI cables without the netting:

You don't need 24ga for a 6' cable. The netting is just for looks.

The outer braided nylon jacket (net jacket) provides strong protection and increased cut resistance to the inner cable.


If the cable is going to run in, thru or behind a wall, the best thing is to make sure it is CL2 (designed with better shielding for in wall installation).


I quite often see people talking about the thin wire vs thick wire issue but in my opinion if you buy the correct length, then how easy it is to bend and twist is not important but always, the lower the "awg" the thicker the wire is and the better it is for signal transfer with less degradation.
