Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I want to extend my digital TV to another room in my house, this is what i have come up with

from the digital box i will be using an amplified HDMI splitter

then i will plug a IR over HDMI adapter on to the HDMI cable to allow me to change channel in the second room.

i will the run the HDMI cable to a HDMI to ethernet converter

From there i will run an Ethernet cable to a powerline adapter

in the second room i will run from the powerline adapter to another HDMI to Ethernet converter then connect the IR over HDMI adapter and plug in to second TV.

Has anyone used this approach before or what are the chances of it working before i go out and buy all the kit to try it?

Changing HDMI to a format that can be sent over a network is not a trivial (or inexpensive) thing. I believe you are confusing 'HDMI to ethernet' with 'HDMI to CAT5' adapters. The latter requires a wired connection through a CAT cable, the former requires some sophisticated network gear.
